Chris: Can't believe that you omitted, "It depends...."

Should I buy a Taylor or a Martin? It depends...
What's the best place to get_____? It depends....
Should I take up guitar at the age of ________? It depends....
Who is the best guitar player of all time? That's right; it depends.......

Funny, Chris! We'll enjoy adding to your list, but the good news is that at least a few of them really don't apply to the AGF. We rarely see the first one, for instance. The way we're set up, it's a lot easier to ask about strings or capos or whatever than to search through all the past discussion of them. The AGF is far more of a discussion forum than an easily researched library of past-posted information. But such details shouldn't detract from your thread. Let me add some more:
  • Taylors sound thin.
  • Martins are too boomy.
  • Gibsons are to boxy or (__fill in the blank__).
  • Gutars made in the USA are best.
  • Those made in China are the worst.
  • Elixir strings make your guitar neck feel like it's wearing a jacket.
  • Today's music is nowhere near as good as that back when I was growing up (regardless of when that was).

None of this is true, of course, but it sure is fun to talk about!

  • Save up and get X (which wasn't listed by the OP as a considered choice, and which is substantially above the OP's budget.)
  • A Martin D-18

And the inevitable answer to "My local store has these two guitars--should I get X or Y?" is "You should get a Larivee" followed closely be "get a carbon fiber guitar."

Nailed with the first 2 answers. Most online forums tend to be inhabited by curmudgeons.

I still find it funny how custom ordering an acoustic is so dangerous.

Oops--forgot one: "This thread belongs in the 'Open Mic' section."

And the perennial favorite: "popcorn".

Followed closely by "pizza" and "beer".

Well, that just about wraps things up. You have done everybody a tremendous public service because we will all spend more time playing, rather than talking about our guitars, since it has all been said now. The result should be the current crop of guitar owners will be the best players we have ever seen, even if AGF turns into a ghost town (with the obvious exception of the "Show and Tell" sub-forum, which will become tremendously active).

Sorry Tony there is one more answer to almost every question I have seen on the AGF and its "Yamaha" I've never really understood why and there is very little context added with the answers but if you're looking for an answer "Yamaha" is it.

"practice" needs to be in there somewhere as well as "RTFM"(read manual).

"you can't get that much money used since you spent so much buying it new."

"because everything on the agf is subjective"

"one pick is not for everyone"

"it is your endpin"

play music!

Don't forget that if you have expensive guitars you can't play or hear.

Follow your gut.
Depends on the builder.
Tone is in the fingers
Probably just needs a good set up
Everybody hears differently

Guitars build in China are just as good as _______ but a lot less money, therefore anyone who buys anything else is wasting their time and money.
