Default Other songs in open G ?

Took the time to learn South City Midnight Lady this morning. Although it still needs some work, I was surprised how easy it was. Since I'm planning on leaving that guitar tuned to open G (at least for awhile) wondering what other great songs are played in that tuning?

Strummers or fingerstyle? Larry Pattis' "Big Mountain Sunrise" is an awesome Open G fingerstyle tune. I play The Moody Blues' "Never Comes the Day" in Open G also.

Probably more strumming like SCML, unless the fingerstyle is not terribly difficult. Never been much of a fingerstylist (mangled index finger)

I like to play Special Rider blues in open G. I first learnt it from a Corey Harris lesson (which was some slight variation of open G) and don't know what Skip James played it in, but it's not very complicated and its fun to play around with.

Live version of Willin by Little Feat is Open G. That was my first Open G song to learn.

You can play most any tune on open G if you set your mind to it, tho some lend themselves to it more than others. Excellent mental excercise if nothing else.

Key of D is pretty straightforward, as are C and Em. Other keys may be a bit more of a stretch, but you can get there tho you may prefer a different tuning due to voicing concerns.

Elizabeth Cotten's "Spanish flangdang" and her version of, "vestapol."

Leo Kottke's version of "Jesu, Joy of Man's desiring" is in open G. It was the first version I learned. The parts where in some versions you have a chorus singing is really cool in Kottke's version. I suggest hearing the live version on...err...I think "my feet are smiling" and not the more sparse version on his debut album.

I think Nick Drake's, "Rider on the Wheel" is in open G.

no doubt you can find a ton of John Fahey material in open G with tabs available online in several places.

edit:
oops saw the op preferred strummers. well if anyone sees the thread and wants some fingerstyle tunes here you go.

I've been on an open G kick on my 12 string lately. 2 relatively easy Leo Kottke pieces I've been working on are Crow River Waltz and Sailor's Grave On The Prairie. Both in Open G (how I learned them anyway).

One of the cool (or not, depending on your taste) things about open G is that the root of the tuning is on the 5th string and not the 6th string. The 5th of the key is the lowest note, and this results in a lot of second-inversion sound in G-major - which is VERY sweet sounding (as in ballad sweet...some would say even sticky sweet. Think "The Carpenters" sweet).

If you like that sound, try out Ricky Scaggs' arrangement of "Both Sides Now",
or perhaps one of several arrangements of Santo and Johnny's "Sleepwalk".

"A Penny for Your Thoughts" (Peter Frampton) was also done in this tuning.

"Wild Horses" is a nice tune to play in open G, especially on a 12-string.
