Default Matchbox Twenty Disease Acoustic

Hi Guys and Girls
I’m trying to get Matchbox Twenty’s Disease Acoustic version down.
I have looked around and most people say capo on second and standard tuning.
However some people say capo on second and tune down a half step.
I know it starts of with a Em hammer on then to a 0 low e, 2nd fret A and 1st fret D.
I hit the Em with a downstroke them strum all strings downstroke but from there I’m confused whatever I try it doesn’t sound right. It sounds like a slap in there but I’m unsure on how to get that sound playing with a pick?
I don’t need the whole song just the first 10!seconds I can work out the rest.
Can anyone shed some light on this please just the strumming pattern and how to get that slap sound it’s easy fingerstyle but the song is clearer with a pick.
Here is a link to the song if you don’t know the intro

Thanks A Million 🙂

Sounds like ....

Hammer-on Em 2 beats
Lift-off half a beat
Hammer-on Em one and a half beats
B7 four beats

Repeat....

That's the best I can describe it. Just tried it, it works. If you were sitting beside me, I'd show you and you'd have it in a few seconds! Those are the chord-shapes you need, and the recording is in standard tuning capoed at 2 (which makes the chords actually F#m and C#7th).

But the capo position is irrelevant - capo or don't capo to suit your voice.

What you describe as a 'slap' I think is the sound of a hard pick, probably close-mic'd at a guess. Just did it myself.

Usual disclaimers apply......IMHO, YMMV etc.
