Default Guild of American Luthiers - Tacoma

I thought I would keep a little catalogue of what's going on up here in the Pacific Northwest. The GAL is a great organization that helps stringed instrument builders across the globe with information about all phases of instrument manufacturing.

Look at all these Luthiers gathered at Michael Bashkin:

There will be exhibition of instruments by hobbyists to top pros in the afternoons. I'll try to post guitar pics as I see them like I would at a real guitar show. So I hope you follow along. If you some instruments or luthiers that you want to know more about, let me know, and I'll try to get the goods.

Thanks!

You're welcome! The convention is just open to members, but on Saturday afternoon, there will be a public exhibition from 1 to 5 at Pacific Lutheran University in the UC. Hope you can swing by.

Ok ok...any attempt of mine to avoid self-promotion was going to fail sooner or later anyway. Of course, I just "finished" the Boss is Away guitar just hours before needing to ship to this show. (I say finished in that it looks pretty good and plays notes, but really, I need to dial in the action and do some last minute things before it's truly sale-worthy.) In fact, it really got pulled up to standard pitch for the first time yesterday, and some random person played the first song on it - which is a first for us! It sounds scrumptious! The low end really has some profundity to it without overwhelming the delicate but firm trebles. With the wedge, it is very comfortable while not sacrificing richness. This is just a picture of the front, but it's the Red Eucalyptus back and sides that have been arresting passers-by.

The steel string listening session is this morning, so Mark Hanson will be putting this and 70 other guitars through its paces. I'll try to get some video or something. Thanks for following.
