Warm Audio Products Value priced great gear?
Have been seeing some fairly flattering reviews for this gear. Specked with relatively high end components many made in US and then assembled overseas and very competitively priced.
Disclaimer I have not auditioned any of the gear myself so this is strictly from hearsay. They now have a U87 style mic to add to their well received pre's and compressor, and 414 style mic. Here are some shoot outs one on acoustic guitar and one on male vocal and while there are some very very slight differences, It seems this mic holds it own very well with the Neumann U 87 at some 5 times more expensive. The Warm Audio WA 87 is priced at $599 and the Neumann U87ai. is $ 3200

I picked up a WA87 a couple weeks ago. Very good. Highly recommended.
Recording my next album with it. Planning on getting more Warm Audio gear.

I have no first hand experience with their stuff but a friend of mine has their 1176 clone and likes it very much. I haven't seen much negative about any of their gear. Go for it.

I know a guy who does a lot of engineering in Nashville who just loves the WA87 - he claims it is closer to his early U87 than to the newer U87ai. He claims it to be warmer than the current U87.
I trust his ears enough that I have one on my "next things to buy" list.

Not sure from that guitar recording. Very much lack of air and detail. Better mike placement would have helped no doubt.

Quote:
I think one can never really get a really accurate picture of what the sound is like from compressed Youtube files. That said from the standpoint of A/B comparison, when done like these video's with the two mics in the same relative position and on the same performance presumably into the same pre etc. . I do think that it is useful for getting a reasonable general picture as to if there is any major sound difference between the two. So in other words It will not really help significantly to determine how it will sound on your guitar, with your style of playing, in your room, but it can be somewhat helpful in a general sense in comparing the two mics to each other.
