Alternative Power Supply for a Tonebone PZ Pre?

Hi all.

Can someone recommend an alternative power supply that will power a PZ Pre? Or if there's a pedalboard power supply that will supply the right power (without breaking the bank). I'm looking to reduce the size of the wall wart.

That odd voltage is a slight pain isn't it, but it is good gear. I have a PZ Deluxe on a pedalboard with 6 other pedals. 5, 9 volt, 1, 12 volt and the PZ, 15v and I think from memory reversed polarity to most. The only supply I could see that did them all with no problem was a Cioks DC10.

Heavy, but a great clean power supply, been working perfectly for over a year now.

Grr. The Cioks is the one Tonebone recommends, but MAN that thing is expensive.

I got a Voodoo Lab MONDO from Sweetwater. I plug the PZ Pre into the courtesy AC outlet on the back. It's only $249.

I believe the Cioks DC10 is the only game in town. Look for a used one. I run a small 3 outlet extension cord to the underside of my board, and it powers the Gator power supply that powers most of my pedals as well as the wall wart for my PZ-Pre. I bought a backup wall wart for the Radial, although I haven't needed it yet (after 5 years of regular use), and that's that. One day I may upgrade and streamline my board, and if I do, I might get a DC10, but for a while now I've been happy enough without it.

What is the volt/mah spec from the power supply and is the final leg AC or DC?

If its DC you can run from an $80 or less lithium Powerbank I know of. I wrote a thread about it a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks, Louis. I keep a power strip mounted beneath my pedaltrain, too; the issue is that I couldn't figure out a way to make it all fit, but I did a little reorganizing and I think I have everything tucked up in there nicely now and duct taped into place. When I posted this, I had the Radial wall wart poking up through the slats on the board, and it was causing problems.

Having just put together a new pedal board, I knew the 15v Radial would be the issue, so I used a short power strip in the board itself (it's a 'suitcase' style). Would be neater without it, and I only need 2 outlets, one for the 9v and a 2nd for the radial wallwart, but I like having the switch there, too, and it's protected enough that it can't be turned off accidentally.

My Solution was to purchase a 1Spot power supply with a multiplug 5 cable for all of the 9V pedals which has a 10' length. I cut the Tonebone 15V power cable and spliced in some wire to make it 10' and then put both of those and an 20'XLR cable inside of 3/8" split loom for about 8'.

I then connected it all to a small power strip that sits neatly behind me on stage. The extra 10' of XLR cable is always enough to get to the mixer from the tonebone XLR direct out.

It all sets up in under a minute.

Turns out that my cheapie pedalboard power supply will power the TB via a doubling adapter, but only if nothing else is plugging into the supply.
