I am excited about this!
Just got it at work. Learned Wagon Wheel too!
And my coworkers are so happy for me and want me to go home and play it!

Very nice!

Do remember that Wagon Wheel always sounds better if you change the chord order, play at a different tempo, change to 3/4 time, alter the melody drastically, and play it as an instrumental.

Thanks Rudy. It has a nice sound. I have to devote some time to learn to play it properly.

Sorry for the delay... busy work week. This is an Eastman MD305. Great mellow tone.

I have no fundamentals, know few chords, but with free time I'm going to play the heck out of this thing. I love the sound. I tried a two track Ashokan Farewell... my guitar, and the mandolin track on top of it... I think guitars and mandolins complement each other just about as best as any two instruments can... thanks Bob

No mandolin for sale!

The model designations come from Gibson. The most well known models use a 4 or 5. So an F5 is the quintessential Bill Monroe bluegrass mando - scroll and f sound holes. An A5 (like yours) is the same thing without the scroll. An F4 is the same as an F5 with three distinctions - oval soundhole vs f holes, the fretboard is flat on the body vs elevated and the neck joins the body at the 12th fret vs 15th. This last difference also moves the bridge back toward the tailpiece. The A4 again is basically the same thing without the scroll. There are also F2's which are less fancy F4's. Beyond that there are F9 and A9 and others that I am not as familiar with.
