Ted, are these the first models using the Sipo Mahogany? If so, how do they compare to the other ones you've got?

Thanks!

They are Sipo/African Mahogany, and they not only look fantastic, but they sound just as good. We had a chance to a/b our last Honduran custom 00-15 against one of the new ones, and you know what, none of us could hear any difference. Helene actually like the look of the African, has a cool shimmer, especially with the gloss finish.

BTW, African Mahogany has been in use on some boutique brands for a while now, it certainly has the tone.

Is the new Sipo any relation to Sapele? It sure looks similar and Sapele has a nice warm sound as well.

Hi Paul,

Sapele is about 30% harder than Sipo, and about 40% harder than Honduran, aka "Genuine" Mahogany, so Sipo is as close as you can get to Honduran tonally. We currently have both Genuine Mahogany, and Sipo custom OM-15's in stock, and based on my initial comparison they are very, very close tonally.

That new Martin 17 series whiskey sunset kind of grows on you aesthetically. Will be curious to see and play one.

So, I might actually be able to afford a "D45" after all?!? I'll just leave my tuner permanently clipped on the head stock to obscure the branding. That's a pretty guitar.

Don't obscure the branding! Eastmans are awesome! Wear it proudly.
