Default David Berkowitz 12 String

Due to being hit by an SUV while crossing the street AND two surgeries on my left hand, I must regretfully sell my 1998 Berkowitz Prototype 12 string. This EXF 16 1/2 inch cutaway was made for the late John Jenning, producer and guitarist for Mary Chapin Carpenter. It is constructed of an exceptional cross-grained Sitka top and straight grained EIR of a beautiful purple/red hue. It has an internal pickup with preamp and endpin jack, wrapped up in an amazing Ameritage case. This guitar has been played, respectfully. John played it, I have played it and it does have small indentations here and there. But, no one has abused it and, is not a "closet queen". I believe David studied under Ervin Somogi.
This guitar has an angelic voice, sustains forever and was my joy until I received the impressions from the front end of a Lexus!

New, this guitar will retail for $9,850. I am asking $4500, OBO.

Sorry to hear about your accident. How long since it happened? If fairly recently, I wouldn't rush out to sell it, if you may get some use of your hands back.

My reasoning is this. I was involved in a severe MVA in 2001 and, owing to severe head injuries and hearing loss including tinnitus, I found it next to impossible to play guitar again. Wind forward 15 years and I have begun to play again, finding that my Brain has re-wired some of the synapses so that, what sounded like mud before, I can now identify as music. I've still got a long way to go, but am beginning to work out what is happening and why.

Smile What a sweetheart...

Sending good thoughts for both of you to heal and get back to making music!

May I suggest short scale, dropped tunings, and the easiest neck possible. My 65 YO hands are small and beat up, too. I have really found dropped tunings to help!

Best on the sale, and more importantly, best on your health!

Cheers

Paul

David Berkowitz brought one of his guitars to an AGF gathering in the Washington area 6 or 7 years ago. I remember that guitar and a TJ Thompson owned by a forum member as standing above all other guitars I have had the opportunity to play or hear. Don't remember seeing another available before. Good luck with the sale and heal fast.

Jeff

Thank you for those kind wishes! It is hard to believe someone would actually run you down as a pedestrian, in a crosswalk!

Now says "sale or trade". So, what kind of trade are you seeking?
Also, what is the string spacing at the bridge and nut please? Thx.

I will be back home this weekend. My father passed away and I cannot recall any stats offhand. Thanks.

Bump, but having second thoughts about selling/trading this beauty... My thanks to the members who have given me second thoughts about this sale. I cannot replace this guitar for my asking price, that is true. Thinking...
