Peavey Duece amps
Back in the early 80's I had a Peavey Duece along with a 25/50 Les Paul Custom. I recently ran across a used Duece cheap and was wondering if I should pick it up. My nostalgic memories of it may not reflect reality, were these actually decent amps ?

I think they were generally considered good amps especially since they were used by Skynard and developed a Southern rock reputation. Big, heavy, loud, what's not to like? If you want classic rock sound then there ya go. How much are they selling it for?

The jury seems to be out on this one - some guys swear by them, some guys swear at them. FWIW these were Peavey's answer to the Music Man amps: solid-state pre/tube power (and I do mean power - as in well over 100W with a set of good tubes), and although the OD in the earliest versions (brushed aluminum knobs) is - politely phrased - adequate at best, these amps do big clean tone as well as their MM or silverface Fender contemporaries (your memory indeed serves you correctly ) and at a far lesser hit to the wallet both then and now. My thoughts: if your tastes run to cleaner styles (country, jazz, surf, oldies, etc.) and/or you have a good pedalboard (any Peavey in the 40W+ range makes a great pedal platform) - and you can get it for $250 or less - I say go for it...
