Default Well, well, finally got a K&K Pure Mini and

...... I had no idea that these things sounded so great . Always had UST in the past so I was a little nervous when I plugged it in thinking oh this probably will not sound very good but to my shock I absolutely love the tone .

Yep, me too. Sometimes following the herd is good

If you're in Columbus and want a matching preamp, I have one for a great deal.

I don't use the Mini but it's definitely one of those pickups that's hard to go wrong with. One of the handful I would definitely recommend people to try with little risk involved.

Hi everybody, while Belgian, I live in a very small village in Italy..So I feel a little alone ..I do have 2 guitars with K&K pure mini pickup and found them fantastic. A froggy Bottom M in Koa and a Santa Cruz 1929-00. I usually play on acoustic image Corus and/or coda. However, I was wondering which preamps you're using...I do have a Radial PZ-Pre but I'd like to have advices from players...
Thanks a lot

Paisano! I used the Fishman Aura Spectrum. It works great and it is super easy. Sounds fantastic.

Hi Chuchi: Although the Radial PZ Pre is an excellent preamp, I've read many here raving about the Red Eye preamp in conjunction with the K&K's---you may want to try it!

Also, FYI, in this case it would be proper etiquette to start your own thread (I know you didn't mean any harm).

That was my reaction also! Couldn't believe the fine tonal details it delivered from my Martin OM-21. When plugged into my fishman loudbox, it really does not need any pre-amp, but I use a fishman aura anyway just for fun. (gadget guy here) Glad you like it, lots of folks agree it would seem!

My signal chain is guitar, K&K, preamp, SA220. For the pre-amp I was able to demo the K&K pre-amp vs the RedEye pre-amp at an actual gig.

The RedEye was more expensive, but, was also clearly the tone I was after. I also really like that I can take the battery out of the RedEye and use the phantom power from my SA220 leaving no wall wart nor any batteries in my signal chain.

While I do all my EQ on my Fishman SA220, the single EQ control on the RedEye is extremely helpful when you find yourself in a crowded and noisy environment. As the noise goes up, I increase the EQ knob and it really focuses the tone and allows it to cut through without increases the volume.

I use a Zoom A3 pedal. All my guitars have different woods, pickups and shapes. I have a saved patch for each instrument. It may not sound the best that it could be if I was to use a different preamp and eq in each instrument but it's versatility makes up for it.

Mine just arrived yesterday (K&K Pure Mini), along with a pure pre-amp. Can't wait to get it installed and try it out.

I had a JJB UST prior and had a lot of difficulty with the sound guy going directly to the board. I'm hoping the fact that I was not using a pre-amp solves this problem.

I have one in my Larrivee OM-03 and I will admit, it is a great sounding pickup. What I really like is that it seems to add a nice round tone. It sounds like my guitar but it adds a nice bit of bass. I am not sure if that's the right word since I associate bass with a boomy tone but it just fills out the sound through a speaker. My friend installed a K&K in her mandolin and it does not sound as nice. It was professionally installed but it sounded like a tin can at our last show.
