Default Jerry Garcia guitar sold

Jerry Garcia's "Wolf", made by Doug Irwin, was sold at auction in New York May 31. The purchaser was Brian Halligan, author of Marketing Lessons from the Grateful Dead. Winning bid was $1.6 million. Proceeds from the sale will go to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Always had a soft spot for hippie sammiches! I've owned ibanez MCs in the past. The ultra low budget alternative.

Edited to add, on a "hmmm... I wouldn't mind one kickin' around" whim, I just went to Ebay. They ain't no Alembics, but they aren't ultra low budget any more!!!! Over a grand for a goodun'.

Can you imagine having the disposable income to purchase a piece of Rock 'n Roll history like Garcia's guitar? Wow.

Imagine actually buying it to play. You'd have to book 6 months at the gym in order to lift it (well, hold it on for a set), then you'd need a few weeks with his guitar tech in order to learn how to steer it...

I reckon I could paint as well as that. Do you think I could swap one of my "masterpieces" for "The Wolf". That is true art!

The wolf is inlay work though, not painted.

Seems to be the Big Bad Wolf from Silly Symphonies et al. There's a short where it's revealed that he's one heck of a polo player, whoda thunkit?

The history is pretty interesting. If I sent a guitar in for some minor fixes and came back with a different bird on the headstock, and an albeit super cool wolf inlay on the body, I'd probably have to tell the dude not to do anything like that again. Seriously...

I've always liked that Tiger design better but man if that guitar could talk!
