Dave,
Would you mind telling us some details about your making these cabinets? How long did it take, what troubles you ran into, how you finished them, are the blanks finished and then put together? I'd really like to do a maple box or two but don't really know how long it'll take or how tough it is to do.

there's not really much to tell, started out with raw lumber, planed it to thickness, cut pieces to size and glued together then finished with nitro lacquer.

cutting out and assembling the box takes a day or two and finishing takes a day then wait a few days for the clear to get hard enough to put everything together without messing up the finish

Doh! Nothing's ever straightforward. I wish you'd told me that before I started peeling all the plastic off.

Sorry for bringing this up again, but I have a question.

I emailed Fishman this morning about their 2017 special edition hardwood FLBM:
https://www.elderly.com/electronics/...oustic-amp.htm

My question was, if we could purchase the hardwood sides to replace the tolex covered sides, to get a nicer looking amp and one that is more durable than with the tolex. This was their response:

"The sides aren't interchangeable. They don't even come off. The amp is a complete glued together cabinet and the sides can't be removed."

So, obviously with what you did with the maple and the mahogany, you had no problem, but Fishman claims it can't be done. Is it just a matter of Fishman making that statement to discourage us from taking the sides off and doing work on it?

Curious. Thank you.

Thanks for your response dchristo (through PM). Fishman's response to me makes perfect sense. Your explanation and picture helped, of how these amps are constructed.

I haven't recovered my Mini yet but I have had great luck with spray on truck bed liner on other projects. It is a whole lot easier than tolex.

I sent my mini to Fishman for repair. ($50 flat rate + shipping) It was replaced with a new one and the new covering looks much better.

I sent a Performer to Fishman. They replaced the unit with one with a different tolex that is not the original soft covering. I believe that this is tolex V2 for Fishman.
Kudos to Fishman for the fast turnaround and service!

Same here it was like $35 to ship my Artist and $50 bench time and it looks amazing. The new covering is a 100x better.
Another kudos to Fishman.

My reply isn't about t he covering on my Fishman Loudbox, but about the fantastic job they did when I needed the amp worked on. I have the original Loudbox, Tri amped model, weighs a ton amp. When my tech couldn't get it fixed Fishman took it in, repaired it and shipped it back. Free shipping both ways. What an amazing company. Kudos to Larry and a great engineering company.
