Yamaha FG800
With an M1 active pickup...divine.
How the heck did they pack so much value into such an entry level guitar? I seriously enjoy it as much as many other $$ I have played. The new scalloped bracing makes a world of difference, I had the FG700 and it was NOT the same beast. You just want to play this thing for hours. The projection is tight, balanced tone, lightweight guitar. How many other people here have been blown away by this guitar? They keep making these, higher end guitars might go out of business. Shows you what some thought and care can create. Got it used, $150. Baggs M1 active in it (LOL, the pickup was worth 2X the guitar value!)...I had one laying around from a Larry I sold last year. Goodness me. |

Congrats on the guitar. I have a Yamaha Fg700 and it still plays amazingly well. I might upgrade sometime in the future.

It's not the same as the 700 series because the 800 line has scalloped bracing. I can't believe they made my FS800 sound so good, at $169.

I have one! I also put a Baggs M1A on it and had it set up and I'm still blown away by how good it sounds. I got mine a few weeks ago and it continues to sound better and better.

I had a FS800 briefly, and it might have been the best sounding guitar I've ever played for under $1000. It was a cannon for its size too. I'd still have it if it wasn't for the worlds tightest string spacing (I think I measured 2 inches at the saddle - I play fingerstyle).

I was playing an FS800 yesterday that made me smile. Banjo Center is banging out some of them for $169 this weekend.

Yep, the FG800 is a home run for sure. I don't know if I will ever get my other guitars out of their cases now. Got mine for $160 with a Musician's Friend coupon.
Interestingly, my son has an FG700. We put new strings on and did a head-to-head last week. The FG700 is no slouch, but we both agreed that the 800 is significantly better in the lower register. It's got a boom you just don't find in cheap guitars. There is no way I'm doing a head-to-head with my "better" (i.e., much more expensive) guitars. I'm afraid I won't like the outcome very much... |

I have a FG820, just a bit more bling than the 800, love it as well. All I did was lower the saddle a bit. Had a 700 a few years ago and never liked the neck and sold it.
I swear the 800's have a different neck profile, does anyone know if that's the case? |

Almost bought the FG800 but the LL6 ARE sounded quite a bit better so ended up with it. Absolutely no regrets.

+1 on the neck profile being slightly different. It felt like it's in between 11/16 and 3/4.
