Default 12 Fret Guitar - check specs inside...

*************CANADIAN LOCATED SELLERS ONLY******************

I had recently bought a 000 Joshua House and let it go. Fantastic guitar but I couldn't justify keeping it at the cost I paid for it. So I broke even and I am starting over again.

I still want to fill the guitar void in my life. Now I am looking for another 12 fret guitar for couch picking duties. What I'm seeking:

- 12 fret
- natural woody tone, plays well with a light touch (solid woods)
- Generous neck/string spacing. Absolutely cannot manage 1 11/16 nuts.
- lightly built preferred
- 000/OM/Concert size preferred

Budget is approximately 1k USD. Please note I am located in Canada.

So have at it. What have you got?

A couple thoughts.

I had a Taylor GC7 (essentially a less-bling 712) and a Martin 000-15 (pre-M). The 000 will have a narrower neck and you want an OM if you want the 1.75" nut.

I found the Taylor Grand Concert body to match perfectly to the 000 body - comfortably the same.

These two also complemented each other nicely and were very opposite in sound.

So, if you want something very different from a Martin 000-15, try a Taylor 412 or 612 or 712

skip the 312 and 512 as their body woods are similar to a 000-15's body woods

At today's exchange rates, that translates to just over $1000USA.
Just some ideas and thoughts: Of course there are others, but some of the nicest sounding, playing and looking guitars of that size and in that price range are by Eastman or Blueridge. They also have several models with the size neck & scale you prefer. I particularly have liked their guitars in the 000/OM size. While I hope you can try one near your location, there are plenty of reviews. By the way, I have no relationship at all with Eastman, but have plenty of exposure to prestige makers as well as crediting a bargain when I see one. A used Martin 000-17SM is another sweetie that you might find within budget on a good day. The Yamaha LL or LS-16's are very nice. A used Breedlove USA concert or OM-size could be a contender. Since many buyers insist on guitars that look like they're hardly played, you can sometimes find terrific instruments at a bargain price if functionally insignificant aesthetic blemishes don't bother you.
In any case ... Best of luck & hope you find one you love

Thanks guys.

I think my ideal choices would be a Taylor Grand Concert or some short of 000/LS Larrivee. That Larrivee 000-40r 12 fret on the board is ideal but unfortunately its in the USA and new rosewood restrictions make the transaction difficult.

Im also tempted by Eastmans but ive owned three and I'm not sure they have what I'm looking for.

Any more gits in Canada??? Still looking.

Question

Hi;

Well, I am in Canada , (Winnipeg), & I do have a great Collings 0002H-A for sale. But I think it's way over your budget. I am negotiable, but still I think we're a bit too far apart on price?...

Feel free to PM me if you like though ?

Cheers;
Rudy

honestly, I'd never buy a guitar in that price range without playing it. Listening to others convince you what their own ears hear from a certain guitar is futile. Figure out where a good store is that carries a ton of product, and go on a road trip.

What price range would you look at? Just curious... I dont know how this is any different than any of the other guitars listed here around a grand or higher.

I find it easier to pull the trigger on more expensive guitars, say $3K and up, without having played them. Usually you can get some decent quality recordings that can give you a real sense of the signature sound of the guitar.

I'd buy a Collings without playing it as an example of a production line guitar that has a reputation for consistency. Or I'd buy from a builder. But less expensive guitars, there's the whole playability issue, and you need to keep your eye on both nut width and string spacing. I'd rather go into a store with a ton of depth and play from morning till night.

I actually played my Collings before buying it, but that is probably the only time. Played all day, and returned the next morning to hear with fresh ears and make the final decision. That guitar has outstanding warmth and plays so well up the neck, and retains it's volume when cappoed high.

Another bump.

Considering a local Martin 000-16sgt so this might come to a close soon.

Deal fell through... sigh.

Good news is I might have dodged a bullet. Pretty set on getting a Taylor 12 fret now of some sort.

Budget being upped to $1800 - $2000 CDN all in. So still seeking out a guitar in Canada.

Smile A worthy quest!

One thing to consider. Pretty sure ALL Taylors have 2 3/16" saddle spacing. Only a 16th off of your wish list...

Enjoy the hunt

Cheers

Paul
