Beautiful guitar indeed. Leo has the most visually striking design amongst the Somogyi boys IMHO.

Well, this is coming out amazing. I can't wait to play some of Leo's guitars at SBAIC. How would you say they compare to those made by other Somogyi-trained builders?

I've probably played more of Leo's guitars than most anyone (perks of taking pictures for him) and they are very different in tone from anything Somogyi. Leo's sound is very confident, subtle, and pure. Playing his guitars is a very personal experience...and it is consuming.
Leo is very much like his guitars, actually. Both gentle and bold at the same time, somehow. This Tree guitar feels special, it has mojo already. I have no doubt it will be as good a guitar as his best and I can't wait to hear it!

This is an interesting observation because, in a just-published article on Somogyi and his apprentices in Fretboard Journal, Leo says, "My goal was trying to achieve Ervin's sound. I fell in love with that sound."

Just so I can get some idea of the difference you hear, if you would describe Leo's sound as "confident, subtle, and pure", how would you describe Somogyi's?

Well, tough to make comparisons exactly... I personally think a Somogyi is a Somogyi, Kraut a Kraut, Michi a Michi, Kostal a Kostal etc... They all have their own thing going on.. Sure, all similar in certain ways.. But Ya know...

On a stimulation level as a player, I can say that Leo's guitars excited me as much as the best I've played from any of the names mentioned above etc... His guitars simply really connected with me... I'd say maybe a bit of a thicker and warmer tone more like a Traugott, vs a sonic booming bass over the top crazy sustaine kinda sound a lot of Somogyis Have had that I've played..

Best thing to do is come and high five Mr Leo and the show and jam this beauty yourself.... 😜 👍 🎯

As Dave said, Leo's guitars just connected with him and I find that true as well. I said that playing a Buendia is very personal and that is two ways of conveying a similar feeling.
Somogyi sound huge on the low end, it's remarkable. Leo has moved towards a wonderful rich, and balanced tone.
