I once took some mangos to the checkout at a supermarket and asked the checkout chick to handle them very carefully as I was going to use them for a photo shoot. She looked at me and asked seriously, "how do you take photos with these?

Thank you very much for your interest in the story behind our logo. Uncle Pauhana, 'The Hound' is simply the name of the type of animal, as it is referred to in Irish Celtic mythology. Alistair has, indeed, referred to the company logo dog/hound as Rufus in the past. Kind Regards, Sean Last edited by Emerald Guitars; 06-08-2017 at 09:31 AM. |

Hi fazool,
Good spot, thank you! That was my mistake I was jumping between writing about Celtic knots and guitar nuts ;-). Sean |

Hold on there, I was wrong. The Welsh symbol is a dragon (that is stylized very much like the Irish hound). The dog symbol is particularly relevant for Emerald guitars because the hound was commonly represented as a shape-shifter and Alistair has certainly shifted the shape of guitars.
As far as the name? Rufus, hound, and dog are probably better than pooch, cur, or some other generic names for dogs. |

On a more serious note, I would have thought the hound would have been called "Cuchulain" or something along those lines. And that top, it's simply stunning.

I never realised that the logo is a dog, I thought it might have been a representation of a dragon (it is a bit dragonish).
This puts me in a quandary, my X20 will be ready soon but my place is a conservation property and no dogs allowed! |

Brah, that's some pretty interesting place you live, if they don't let dogs in, but dragons are OK!

It's a matter of precedent, I've never had a dragon killing wildlife on my property so I haven't banned them yet. (besides, I feel much safer shooting dogs than dragons!).

Got my X7 in the mail yesterday, love the guitar of course but the hound really puts it over the top! Best log on a headstock bar none (though Santa Cruz gives it a run...)

I think the hound should have a rabbit in its mouth. Or at least a bird.

I think we are the "rabbit" when it comes to emerald guitars...
