Beveling inside edge of OM
Hi all,
Does anyone know if it is possible to get a luthier to custom bevel the edge on the back side of an om shape acoustic; where the waist is. That curved bit. Its a guild f-130 with poly finish and ivory (plastic?) binding. I'm exceedingly tall and it happens to gab me under the ribs quite badly haha. Aside from that I love it! Literally just want to bevel it off and round it a bit. Cheers and thanks in advance for any input |

I bet with a half-round file and a set of buffing sticks you can go a pretty good job yourself. Possibly taping it off and spraying a few quick shots of nitrocellulose (from a can) would bring it all together.

Not a simple job in my mind. Most likely if you found someone to do it they would want to take off the back. A bit costly I would think.

Agreed! The binding and linings are not the correct size/geometry to be able to bevel the guitar once it is completed. A small bevel could be added, but it would likely look bad, and would be so little as to be not very functional at all.

If the edge is sharp, there is nothing wrong with rounding the binding. I would scrape it to shape, then use sandpaper in successively finer grits. Plastic binding can be polished up, eliminating the need for adding finish.
