Default separate tracks in Garage Band

I just picked up a Behringer U-Phoria UMC202HD as a cheap interface to give me an extra input for beginning recording. I've yet to figure out how to set up two discrete tracks in Garage Band and would welcome guidance. I can set the inputs to 'mono' and thus have separate 'right' and 'left' tracks, but is there a way to set up separate tracks that I could then mix separately? Thanks for any help-other than comments on my choice of a cheap interface

Is there not a way to specify the input in GB? I’m away from my computer. You should have an option for selecting input one or two on the unit.

If I am understanding correctly you want to record two different mono tracks from two different input channels at the same time ? (like from pair of mic's for a guitar) or one vocal mic and one guitar mic at the same time ?
See if this helps

KevWind,
Yep, this is perfect. I'm glad it's rather complicated rather than something 'everyone already knows!" Thanks again for the tips, I'm headed to try it out now.

Yep there is, and now I've got it figured out! In the initial window I merely needed to assign each input to an individual track. Having done that I can now assign specific presets to each channel depending upon how I intend to use that input (e.g. voice, guitar, etc).

Thanks for the encouragement as I've got it now.
