Default A great sounding 1956 Gibson J-185

I'm not a huge fan of vintage guitars and never thought I'd consider a J185 over a J200 but this video made me change my mind: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCDpk...eature=related

I really need a J185!

That is a good sounding J-185. I can see why a lot of people have a soft spot for them

I however get a bit frustrated with the J-185 as I can hear a J-200 trying to get out of the box but not quite being able to.

A J-185 body with J-200 tone would be a great combo, albeit impossible.

Seeing your collection of acoustic Gibsons, I don't think you'll learn anything from me but I find the J200 to be "too round" for me and the J185's more focused sound is perfect. The biggest challenge is to find one that doesn't sound too thin OR have a terrible looking piece of maple on the back.

Yes, the J-185 does have a more focused tone, and that is why a lot of folks like this model, as you do. Completely understandable :-)

This is a clip of my 56 J-185: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqiyV...eature=related .

I recorded it on the fly with my $120 Canon camera (not with the microphones set up as in the vintageoneguitars video).

When you find a good one, they can be really good!

Kind of like this one better, but it's all in the ears of the beholder I guess.

I had actually seen your video before! That's a dry sounding guitar indeed -- I love the pickguard...
