The Altamira company was founded by Hanson Yao and his wife Jenney in Guangzhou, China in 2007, and has grown to a firm that employed 120 workers and produces some 28,000 guitars a year. Hanson, who is a luthier, personally trains all of his employees. The company participates regularly in trade shows around the world— I have seen them at the NAMM show, many times, and have played their guitars. From their inception they have looked to Spanish guitars are their standard, and for factory made instruments, they are well-made and offer decent value. I purchased their romantic guitar model at the last NAMM show, which is “inspired” by Lacote guitars— and while certainly not a close copy, is very well made and does manage to produce a “romantic period” sound.
