There're lots of gypsy jazz virtuosos out there. I think Stochelo Rosenberg is a pretty solid contender and keeps the spirit alive.

One of these days I'll get myself one of these maccaferri guitars. They're just so cool for this type of music. ^^

Thanks for that clip. Seems like a new one. I really like his playing, very inspirational.

Anyone who can play Sweet Georgia Brown with Tommy Emmanuel and walk away with his head held high... That gets my respect.

He is brilliant and fast and boring.

Nothing like Django.

Angelo Debarre and Gonzalo Bergara are great players too. Very musical.

Thanks to the OP,

I enjoyed that. There are some great players in the genre around. Stochelo's my favourite of the 'new' generation.

Angelo Debarre (my personal favorite for his fire and note choice):

Tchavolo Schmitt:

Gonzalo Bergara:

Stochelo Rosenberg with Tommy Emmanuel:

Many of my favourite modern GJ's have already been mentioned in this thread, but one who hasn't is is Adrien Moignard. Well worth a look on You Tube!

In my mind, there is guitar playing and then there is GYPSY JAZZ GUITAR PLAYING! When I watch a good gypsy jazz player fly around the neck covering the intricacies of a great improvisation on a melody I just don't think I've heard anything in bluegrass that even gets close (and I love bluegrass). If you get the chance, try and sit about six feet away from one of these guys and you WILL be blown away. Tommy Emmanuel is about the only "normal" guitar guy that can sit in and cut it in my opinion.

"Angelo Debarre and Gonzalo Bergara are great players too. Very musical."

Also very unlike Joscho Stephan whose main claim to fame is speed.
Django was not a speed demon.

I prefer "musical" to speed. I have been to three small concerts with Gonzalo Bergara... outstanding. Lulo Reinhardt is at the top of my favorites list along with Angelo Debarre who is not a "gypsy".

In my opinion there are many players "doing it better".

You have your opinion , I have mine after 24 years listening to Gypsy Jazz.
