Radiohead is beyond awesome.

St. Vincent is fantastic.

Tune-Yards are also fantastic.

Wilco is really good.

Beck is also very good.

Just a few off the top of my head.. though it does depend on how you define mainstream I guess.

I'm not sure I know what mainstream is. Does Marty Stuart qualify? Buddy Miller? Norah Jones? If so, here's a vote for each.

Really?? They are to me but i don't listen to much new stuff on the radio.

I think that most would agree that the Allman Bros are about as "mainstream" as you can get. YMMV (but I don't see how).

Jonathan Byrd is mostly unknown but known well and respected in the world of up and coming songwriters.

If you guys consider Coldplay mainstream then that's my choice.

I dont really listen to the radio, so these may not be mainstream. But all are growing in popularity.

Iron and Wine
City and Colour
Jack Savoretti
Ray LaMontagne

I'm also a big John Mayer fan, though I know many on these boards despise him.

Definitely Coldplay is worthy of a mention.

I also respect what Adele and Lorde have done in Pop.

Mumford and Sons is by far the most mainstream band that I love. They can be a bit much for me at times, but they have put out some great music.

the Allman Brothers once were mainstream but in their current form, i dont think so personally. Your'e not going to hear the new Allman Brothers on the radio.

I dont listen to the radio for music myself either though, ive actually downgraded to talk radio (GASP!) for my commutes if i dont have an ipod handy

Hah! Sounds like me - cd's or NPR.

I reckon me choosing The Allman Bros is showing my age. There was a lot of crappy music in the 70's and 80's too but seems like there was enough good to sort of balance things out. I don't think that is true anymore - at least with what is played on the radio.

Still lots of great stuff but finding it is harder than just turning the dial now (IMO, of course).
