Dave, yeah, always loved that one. Title is "Round Here," right? Adam's voice is perfect for that song.

I think I'll pack it in and buy a pickup, take it down to LA,
find a place to call my own, try to fix up, start a brand new day.

Neil Young, Out on the Weekend

I like it because whenever life seemed like it was getting to me, this line always there to let me know there is always a way out.

I don't like guilt be it stoned or stupid, drunk and disorderly, I ain't no cupid.
Two years ago today I was arrested on Christmas Eve.

Lou Reed, New Sensations

What the heck was this guy doing on Christmas Eve?

Default Just One!?

I always though this was simple, catchy, all encompassing and therefore brilliant!...

Paul Simon's opening lyrics for "You Can Call Me Al":

A man walks down the street
He says why am I soft in the middle now
Why am I soft in the middle
The rest of my life is so hard

Yeah, a wonderful song from an awesome album. The other killer opening line is from the title track: "The Mississippi Delta is shining like a National guitar." Oh wow. Several have quoted that line in this thread.

I was flying over the Delta many years ago in the late afternoon with the sun setting in the West and saw EXACTLY what he was talking about. I was so excited I almost jumped out of my seat. I'm convinced he was flying into Memphis and saw exactly the same thing and that's where he got the line. Just a gorgeous sight.

Another beautiful opener in a great song is from the tune "Hearts & Bones":

"One and one half wandering Jews
Free to wander wherever they choose"

I got high roast coffee in my cup
I got a beautiful wife holding my hand
but there’s just one thing I don’t understand

I really do appreciate the fact you're sitting here ...
Your voice sounds so wonderful ... but your face don't look so clear

Hey Willie D
I thought it was Marvins Gardens that wrote that song. At least I think that's who Buffet gave credit to on the album.

Default The best opening lines of any song ever, of all time in my world is

He came riding fast like a phoenix out of fire flames
He came dressed in black with a cross bearing my name
He came bathed in light and splendor and glory
I can't believe what the lord has finally sent me
