Default A new custom nylon-string from Island

This is something a little less traditional and extremely cool. The Modern Romantic from Island is a very small-bodied nylon-string with SOUL!!! Built by filmmaker-turned-luthier Nic Delisle, this little gem has a sweet intimate sound that makes you want to keep playing and forget the time. I find the neck and body to be extremely comfortable. Narrower than a standard classical, the neck is also adjustable to suit the needs of the player. This guitar also sports a built-in K&K Passive pickup for live and recording use. Those things are nice features but once you start playing this guitar, you sort of lose yourself in the harmonically rich sound paired with the comfortable under-sized body and smooth action.

Island Instrument Manufacture is known for creating unique electric guitars but this is truly something else - a cool mixup of some different traditional styles, done in an eye-catching finish and bound with heirloom-grade Italian celluloid that is so colorful... yellows, browns, reds, and even greens. The body finish is satin and has a very unique "rubbed-out" look that transitions up the neck and across the headstock. The small celluloid triangle under the bridge completes the look and ties it together with the pickguard. The soundhole is also generously bound. Please be sure to give him a "like" on Facebook if his work looks interesting to you. He's always building something cool. (I think he's building a tube amp into one of his guitar cases at the moment.)

These tuners are buttery smooth

The little detail below the bridge was apparently a last-minute addition and I think it really completes the look.

It's really a cool and eye-catching man.!

I read all the features and it's quite impressive to me, +1 for your great work.

Hi J.R., what a beautiful looking guitar!!! Especially the back, including the back of the body, neck, and peghead too. It looks very rustic and full of character. The only thing I'd change is to remove the "circle" around the "Island" on the headstock so it's a little less bold. But just a stunning guitar.

Is this yours?

Thank you for the kind words, everyone. Hello, Dru! Yeah, he only put that logo on the headstock because I insisted.... so blame me. That wasn't his aesthetic choice and he tried to talk me out of it. I didn't want anyone needing to peer inside the soundhole to see what kind of guitar I'm playing and his electrics are now starting to show up in the media.... I wasn't sure if this would be one of his few acoustics but I really hope he can keep making these somehow.

BTW: This guitar has such a smooth, beautiful tone. I can't say enough good about it. There's really something special going on in there, as in all of Nic's guitars that I've played.

Interesting guitar -- I've got a couple questions:

Do you know what brand the tuners are?

What's the saddle made from?

The tuners are Schertler and the saddle is verawood, a very close cousin to lignum vitae. This is Nic's "Modern Romantic" design and I'm sure he will build you one if you get in touch. I know that he has at least one more in production and he just finished building a set of three...

Hi all,
Thanks everybody for the kind words.

Just to clear things up, this is, technically the 3rd incarnation of the "Modern Romantic" and the closest to what I wish to achieve with regards to the heel-less adjustable neck design, shape, aesthetic etc.

It is a model than can be ordered. I need to update my website, but feel free to shoot me a PM or email to inquire about pricing, or with any other questions you may have. I currently have one in production (though, already spoken for) in flamed birch/spruce. I also have a steel string Gibson-style L-00 in the works.
