The Good Ole' Fender Celluloid. What's Your Favorite color?
Following up on a recent celluloid pick thread got me thinking of my favorite color. So many choices. Abalone and tortoise stand out for me. How about you?

I prefer the white celluloid picks. They’re easier to see if you drop one onstage, and the white celluloid is ever so slightly stiffer than the tortoiseshell celluloid.

I like the tortoise in medium and the purple in heavy, helps to not get them mixed up.
Does anyone but me hear a difference in tone between the different colors. In medium the tortoise sounds warmer then the abalone. That's playing the same guitar just switching picks back and forth. |

I use the brown 351 Heavy for everything. And yeah, I noticed a difference with the white ones same pick same gauge. They had a slightly different sound.

I haven't played a celluloid pick in a long time. Probably well over two decades.
Now I want to go buy some. Why is that? |

I have many different patterns and colors, some Fender, some Fender-style. My current favorite is a medium Fender in a black and white checkerboard pattern. I have picks everywhere, and I buy them mostly for how they look.

Tortoise Mediums since 1974. I do use white lights on the 12 string (but 12 strings seem to come and go…)

I do notice a difference in feels too. The medium tortoise definitely has a different feel.

I've played Fender 351s for years and wasn't aware that I needed a favorite color. My son picked up a beautiful blue moto for me in Hawaii. I like that one. Clown vomit is... um... interesting.

I've just been picking a different color each time I buy them, but I've learned that some of them get lost too easily on the floor.
Right now I have rainbow stripes. They are easy to see. |

Ahhh...the old reliable Clown Barf. Now if they would just make a premium pick in that color pattern. Hey Memmer are you listening?

I buy the Planet Waves/D'addario celluloid picks, but I think they're pretty similar to the Fenders. I've bought 100 packs of whatever was cheapest, but most of mine now are clown barf/confetti or checkerboard.
