Favorite chord & tab app?
I've tried readig up on the best apps, but it seems many of them are biased. Objectively, what are some of the better apps for chords and tabs?

I have Ultimate Guitar which is free and is very good. Use it on my phone and Samsung tablet. I have not used any other so don't have anything else to compare to I'm interested in this as well....
EDIT.....I forgot this is not free, it's 9.99 I think and worth every penny...

I purchased a six month subscription to E-Cords.com to give it a whirl and have been satisfied with the site.

Guitar Pro have a decent app as well but it is not for free but there are a lot of free tabs available on the web. I use it on my Samsung tab.

I teach students to build chords so they don't need a chord app. I think separate apps for each function (TAB versus chord) are most useful. If you learn to master building chords on your own, it's free, and then you can move them around the neck very quickly. Until then an app with reverse chord lookup is handy. They abound online for free, and cheap/free for your devices, but if you do get a free one, be aware there are ads connected to it. Also be aware that the same notes, played in the same place on the neck, can be expressed as different chord names. The chord name is sometimes dependent on the key you are playing in and the chord progression of said song. Chord apps - like chord books - are often relegated to infrequent use. |
