Splendid. What a great treat to start the evening here.
Thank you Sal!

I bet you could finger pick and sing this song with a little practice. My only advantage is that I have been doing this song similar to this for the last 50+ years. It does feel fairly natural after all those years, it's true!

Thank you so much for commenting; I am very gratified that you like this!

Terrific rendition. Thanks for posting. I have played this one on 12 string quite a few times with my old band and I will never tire of it. Perfectly crafted song, this, like most Lightfoot songs.

Thank you Daniel!

Nice to hear from you! It looks like you are right in the middle of Lightfoot country! Thank you for commenting here!

Perhaps you should make an album of Lightfoot songs?

Hi Owen,

Well, the best album of Gordon Lightfoot songs, I am sure, would have been recorded by Gordon Lightfoot. To me, the good thing about YouTube is that if someone likes a cover rendition, they can go listen to it for free. In the meantime, the performer has nothing invested in a bunch of CDs that have to be sold, and if they are not sold, there is a financial loss.

Thank you for your encouragement, but I have made a fair number of albums in the past. I think I am done with that at this stage of my life. YouTube and the AGF Show & Tell section provide me everything I need right now in terms of an audience. I'm enjoying what I am doing.

Thanks for listening Owen!

Well Glenn, you've done it again!

Is it sacrilege to say I prefer your rendition to either Gordens or PP&M?

Your sensitivity to the song is immediately apparent.
The guitar is perfectly in place behind your clear voice.

Well done my friend.

Hi Woodbox!

Well, how very generous of you to comment here! Thank you so much.

If you like my version of this song better than Gordon's or P,P&M's, that, to me, is about the highest compliment, so thank you very much!

Regarding sensitivity to the song, it's true that I have been living inside this song for so long, that I can't seem to help climbing inside the song and the story every time I play and sing it. And I know that feeling -- feeling a little guilty, as if I pushed the limits a little too far with other people ("...the liquor tasted good, the women all were fast...") while feeling homesick for others that I have a much deeper connection to (... I miss my loved one so...). And feeling a little out of it, a little isolated... ("...can't jump a jet plane like you can a freight train, so I'd best be on my way, in the early mornin' rain.")

Maybe the song has such appeal because the feelings are universal. We have all messed up or been left out or have been homesick at times. And we know what it's like to be waiting and forlorn out in the rain. (And it sure is raining out here in western Washington!!)

Thanks so very much for your thoughtful comments Woodbox!
