$600: What would YOU buy?
After toying around with various guitars...different bodies, pickups, etc...I've decided to add a hollowbody. I've always been drawn to them visually, so I might as well add one while I have the means.
My question is intentionally vague and let me preface it with this: I am open to fully hollow or semi, love both humbuckers and P90's, and am not afraid to tinker to get my desired sound (ie. putting a p90 in a HB neck position or changing internals). I would generally prefer a thinline body vs a deep jazz box body. Will be playing all styles of music, except for metal. I actually prefer to buy used...so take that into price point consideration. So my question is: If you were going to spend $600 of your money, what would you buy for a semi/hollowbody and why? Thanks in advance for the advice! -Shawn

i'd look at some of the reverend or eastman guitars. they have a variety that come with p90, humbucker, strat style single coil and even lipstick tube pickups.

$600: What would YOU buy?
First Choice: Godin 5th Avenue
Second Choice: Epiphone Casino Used, both are avail at or under 600. The Casino is a great feeling comfortable guitar. I owned one for a couple years. Even just played acoustically I enjoyed it. The P-90's on it are not my fav but they'll do. I prefer a slightly darker p90 The Godin 5th Ave is such a lively acoustic guitar. It was one of two deep body arch tops I was looking at. The other was The Loar 309. The Loar was cheaper by far and although not a bad guitar, it just didn't have the dynamic response of The Godin. I did end up with The Loar and enjoyed it but I probably would save my pennies a bit longer and get the Godin next time. I think you could find a used 5th ave at 600. You could get a new or used Casino at 600.

I got a Gretsch Electromatic (on sale) when I wanted a hollowbody and couldn't afford a better Gretsch or Gibson. I upgraded the tuners. IT's not highend but I still enjoy it.

Based on the replies in this thread I think I'd go after the Godin 5th Avenue. I heard a guy playing one a couple of years ago at the guitar store and it sounded amazing - not sure if it was the guitar, amp, or his fingers but a combination of all 3 I imagine. I even told him how much I liked the tone and his playing.

+1 on the Reverends, best guitars for the money I've ever played. For a semi-hollowbody, 335-style guitar, Rev makes the Manta Ray HB and I've been eye-balling one on Reverb for $575 for a couple of weeks now, but don't really have the cash right now...comes with a Reverend case also...
