I bet the second one wins easily as far as sound quality and horizontal dispersion.

People forget that 4x3" speakers don't make a line array. The original Bose have 24 x2.5" non articulated array to build up the approximate cylindar wave.

What about the various turbosound units?

You are right Turbosund Ip500 is a serious competitor for Maui 5.

I totally forgot this one.

Our local MusicGoRound sell the Turbosound stick PAs and they can't keep them in stock. They have good reviews too.

Turbosound, no battery powered. I think this discussion thread is about Maui 5 Go which can use with battery about 6-10 hours depend the volume.

Comparing it with the Maui 5, the IP500 doesn't have battery feature, and doesn't have many inputs and outputs, and is not that portable (9lbs heavier).
It misses the subwoofer level knob and all other Maui's gain knobs.
With the IP500 you need to have iphone/ipad, and you can use them to remote control the unit, which is great.

IP 500 requires an outboard mixer or similar.

Yes, it can work on battery for 6hours at full power.
And about 30 hours in lounge mode, at 96 dB.

Yes, here they sell it in a pack with the Behringer XENYX 1002.

I don't know in the USA but in Europe the replacement battery for Maui GO is 330$ On the website.

More than the third of the price of the Maui Go...

How much is it in the US?

Thats now the 17th of Jan. The 5 Go is 150 bucks cheaper than a Bose L1 compact...............and I would still need a mixer. I really want this but its way over budget for what I need. The EAE A4-8 is the same price as a normal Maui 5 but with a lot more features, but its also not a column speaker.

I am using the HK Nano 300 for gigs and quite happy with it. Its a 'short stick' system!! The two satelllites can sit right on top of the sub with no cords. OR they can be on poles with cords, or on tables, window ledges, etc. I even use one as a monitor at times. Key...the satellites fit neatly into the back of the sub when carrying it so you have one piece of gear, not two. There is eq on each of three channels as well. And sub power control. The tone is excellent and the added bass through the sub really makes the tone rich and full.

Default Question for Jakestone

Hello Jakestone, I have enjoyed the threads leading to your Bose L1c purchase. Now that you have both the Maui 5 and the L1c, when will
you use the Maui 5? It seems to me the similar footprint plus the somewhat
better sonics of the L1c would win out almost all of the time Just curious.

btw, I have the L1mod2 + T1 and was looking at the L1c and Maui 5 for smaller venues.

Thanks.

Great question.. I actually worked out a deal and got credit for the Maui 5 for exchange towards the Bose L1 Compact. The store manager worked a little magic for me.

The Maui 5 was an excellent value. But the more I used it the more I felt it was missing something. That something was what I will call "umph" or "balls"... It just seemed lacking in that department.

So I started searching for something better and realized that the Fishman and Bose may be better suited for me. (The other thread began that journey).

The Bose L1C was a huge upgrade.. Sound wise it envelopes the player and the room. It is way more natural and acoustic sounding. It's fantastic for solo acoustic guitar and vocals.

But, in all fairness to the Maui 5.. It is $400 less than the Bose Compact. As with all of my gear purchases, I try to maximize the ratio of sound, performance, enjoyment with the cost. To me, the Maui and Bose are quite different. So I was willing to spend a few more bucks and believe the Bose will fit my needs for many years to come.

I hadn't noticed Maui 5 Go, the battery powered version, until it was starting to show up in the European on-line stores now, for example https://www.thomann.de/intl/ld_syste...5_go_white.htm

Anyone got the chance to try it?

Cheers,
Per

Today came from Thomann my LD Maui 5 go. Incredible sound in background music, electric guitar and acoustic guitar. The effects I use are Boss VE-8 and Mooer GE 100. The battery seems to work well, at least during the session. Much better than JBL Eon One Pro, which cost 600 € more. Now I am ready for Club-gigs.
