Need someone with good ears
To figure out this song.
Jerry Garcia and John Kahn, May 5 1982, Friend of the Devil (song 2, 2:32). Already figured out the part of the G chord, I need the part after the A etc. |

I don't see your video, but I play a simple version like this.
G - C G - C D Am D - Am - C - D Etc.... |

This above is correct. Do you know the walkdown intro? If you don't, it's fairly simple. I can write it up if you need it.

I've been playing that one for many years and those chords look right. The little descending riff is important but very simple. If you're doing it solo it sounds great if you can play the riff during the verses rather than just the chords. I've had a look around and happen upon this recent acoustic vid of Bob and John Mayer. It might help with hand postions. If you need help with the riff I can explain it quite easily.
edit, just saw that rockdog had offered to write the riff up for you. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVMLopblMhs I've gotten to the D chord, and can't quite figure out what he's doing. The G and C parts are easy enough, slide to the G on the D string, pick the G on the E string, open B. E# on the D, open B, hammer on the E on the D string, pick the D on the B string. Then a C chord, C on the A, C on the B, open G, B on the D, down to B, same strings as before C on B and open G, then a G chord, G on E and open B. Do that twice then he starts singing. Gets to the D chord and I'm coming up with nothing. |

The first line is all D ("set out running but I take my time"). The next line ("friend of the devil is a friend of mine") seems to be all Am (with a quick G on the last beat before going back to D). There's a hint of Em on "devil" (the guitar hardly there at all), but when the sequence repeats ("I get home") it all sounds like Am, going to D on "tonight". The guitar is minimal, with occasional embellishments, and the bass confuses matters here and there, but essentially the chorus is 2 bars each on D - Am - D - Am, then 4 more bars on D, obviously more lick-based than chord-based.
