Headphone out to microphone in on Canon Camera
Hello,
A very basic question here. I take videos of myself playing/singing with a Canon 5d MkII. The videos sound OK. I was wondering if I could run a male to male 3.5mm from my Fender Acoustic amp from the headphone jack to the microphone in jack to improve the sound on the videos. Will this work? Any adverse affects on amp or camera. I suspect it won't work. It sounds too simple. Thanks.

You'll need to keep the volume level really low to avoid overdriving the input on the camera. There probably will be impedance issues, too, which may result in hum.

Like Mike said the signal level is a complete mismatch.
It depends on how serious you are in improving the sound. Like any hobby you need to decide how much money and time you are willing to spend on it. Most music video's are done using a Camera designed for sound recording also, like the Zoom cameras for one example. Or shoot the video and simultaneously record the sound into some kind of audio recording program usually a DAW and an audio interface and then import the video into the the DAW and sync the sound to the vid. See the "Syncing Audio and Video" thread in this forum

I imagine you would also have an impedance mis-match.

I used a Zoom H1 to feed the audio into the Canon camcorder and it worked fine. Fran
