Not a guitar but your input is needed please...
My wife has always wanted to play guitar. She has never been one to sit for long but has taken up watercolor over the last several years and can be quite patient with that endeavor. She was asking about guitar again and I said I'd started out playing guitar on a baritone ukulele. She seems way more interested in it than I imagined and it's been so long since I played a uke. I wouldn't even know where to begin to look? Any idea where I would go online to pursue a basic starter baritone ukulele?
Many thanks for any input...

If she is looking for guitar......why not start her out on a guitar?
I'm confused

She wants to play guitar but it's a little less confusing as a beginner (I did this myself) to only have four strings. A baritone uke is tuned DGBE. So at some point if she wants to she can switch to guitar by simply adding the bass E and B strings and learning the additional fingerings for the standard tuned guitar. And I'm not completely sure she wants to play guitar more than a uke? Maybe I'm wrong but I believe she's more likely to "follow thru" with a baritone uke?

I understand the correlation but I think it's an odd way to go about learning guitar.
Unless you are trying to learn notes - most guitar beginners learn to play chords so playing chords on a guitar is not always the same as a Buke. Yes it is certainly the most similar non-guitar instrument but I find that a peculiar strategy that I've never ever heard of. I certainly would not recommend that approach.

I got my Kala baritone uke from them last year, exchanged a new Pono that I had received as a gift with no hassle. Very easy to deal with them.

Children can learn to play a guitar. I was somewhere around age 12-13 when I started, and that wasn't unusual. If it might be a matter of fingertip sensitivity, she could start out on a nylon-string guitar (classical type). |
