Thanks Steve! Well, we can't take total credit for the understated trim choices. It's Songwriter's design but I agree with you in that it has a very subtle and pleasing overall visual appearance. It leans toward old school simplicity, an aesthetic that appeals a LOT to my personal design sense as well. Speaking of which, this is another shot which I think we can both appreciate:

If you look real close, I book matched the bindings and you can see four tiny pin knots framing the end wedge. Subtle but cool IMHO.

That is cool. The future owner will see that someday and think to himself what an interesting feature!
Now for me, what's truly impressive is the single white purfling line executed flawlessly! Yer showin' off there Timmy! Very nice.

I have been checking in on this thread with some anticipation as the only all walnut guitar I have ever seen was much better than I expected. Your workmanship is looking really good to me, and it seems you too may be in for a pleasant surprise. I hope so.

Thanks.

The rosette is a bit more than most older Martins, IMO, but I still like the look of it.

I'm going "old school" with a hint of modern . . . like the sound port, and I decided on a more modern-style bridge, too.

This process maintains the original color of the black walnut without imparting any stain which generally inhibits or clouds the natural beauty of the wood. This also ensures that the (walnut stained) pore filler only goes where I want it, into the walnut's open grain wood pores. Another benefit to this process is the sealer also protects the maple purflings from getting stained.

After a minimum of two days drying, I scuff sand with 320, apply one more coat of vinyl sealer and then I'll begin applying the final finish.

Oops, that's probably more info than you needed?
No, I like information on how others skin the cat.

It's fine with me. Love to hear what you think of it. Probably won't be quite ready to play by then, though?
Hehe - I'm looking forward to seeing it but I promise not to pick it up. You should really clear your schedule and make the trip next weekend to see it yourself!

Thanks for the kind compliment Bruce. The tap tone of the box sounds really promising so I have high hopes that this guitar will exceed all of our expectations.

Added a small sound-port, via a "medallion", rather than cutting it directly into the sides.

I think this is the first time Tim has done it this way.

Yes, this is the first Medallion sound port and I think it worked out really well. Sorry this thread has stalled but we ran out of finish and the supplier has been on vacation since July 4th and wasn't scheduled to be back in their office until today. I'll get finish ordered today and within a week we should be back at it again.

I love them "in the white" like this. Or would that be "in the brown"?
Whichever, this looks great.

First thing that I think of when I saw the 'in the brown' picture was that is really going to pop under finish. Then I looked past the body to learn from what is in the background. Side laminating jigs I think.

Keen eye there Fred. Yes, those are side laminating forms. We currently make 12 different models and some of those models require even more forms, 1 for a standard non-cutaway body and 1 for a Venetian cutaway. Needless to say we have a LOT of forms that aren't in the picture 😱
