Wow, I had lost track of this one for sure. It is all coming back to me now. 8 months, you are a patient man my friend. I hope it will be 10 times better than you hope it to be...It is absolutely gorgeous.

Thanks Nemoman! I don't have FB, but Joel sent me the link. I had to hack my daughter's account to look at them. I really like the fret markers too.

Thanks Tom! After revisiting it myself and seeing the finished product, I think that I am up for sainthood with the patience that I've displayed.

Here are a couple of more shots...

Very nice! I'm glad this one is finally on its way. I think you will be quite pleased with the Schertlers. We have seriously considered making them our standard tuner - doubly so for open backed. Best wishes for your new tunemaker.

Default Stehr Baritone

So glad to see this update on your baritone, Nootis...she's a beauty! Joel's guitars are some of my favorites and mine just sounds better and better over time. Wonderful to hear that Joel is getting his new shop up and running. Look forward to hearing your impressions after you've had some time with the guitar.

Thanks Ryan. I am sure it'll be worth the wait. Thanks for the reassurance on the Schertlers, but not that it's needed after seeing that Bruce Sexauer, Howard Klepper and many others also speak highly of them.

Thank you Doug! I think it's great too that Joel is getting back at it. He certainly has an artistic sensibility that he brings to every instrument he creates, and I can't wait to see his creations for years to come.

Greetings all!

The other day as I was finalizing my plans to attend SBAIC, and I thought of an idea to finally get a recording of my beloved Stehr Baritone. Before I get into "the" question, I'll give you some perspective...

I received the guitar sometime in March, and only had a few weeks of enjoyment with it when I suffered a nasty laceration on my middle finger due to a misunderstanding between my dog and I. It required an ER visit, a lot of pain and stitches and as the bad luck continued, a week later it became infected. I didn't realize until about two weeks after that I had actually severed a nerve and a neuroma was forming. As it healed, half of my finger including the tip were completely numb. Gradually I was able to at least play my guitars again, but I fatigued easily and my ability had noticeably diminished (not that I was great to begin with). I ended up seeing a hand specialist, and in June I had surgery to reconnect the severed nerve. The surgery went well, but numbness and stiffness is still there, and I won't truly know if it the surgery is a success as I won't gain feeling back for another 6-10 months (if it comes back). Again, there had been zero guitar playing for about four weeks, and again I have been slowly getting back to being able to play.

With that said, since I plan on bringing the guitar to SBAIC this weekend regardless, I was wondering if any of you fine AGF members would like to attempt to make a sound recording for me? A NGD with a recording is long overdue. While I haven't recorded anything recently, I have an Apogee mic and an iPad mini with Garage Band that I believe I can make a recording with (if someone takes me up on the offer and knows how to navigate my recording set up, then success might be a possibility!).

So AGF, who wants to play this thing and/or make a recording? Please either respond on this thread or PM me. I plan on arriving late Friday, and I am staying at a hotel across the park from the Fess Parker resort. I will gladly meet up where and when it's convenient.

First the perpetrator...

Next the goods...

Last, but not least, I realize it's going to be a busy weekend for all in attendance, and this request might me a long shot. Even if you are just interested in playing it, let me know and I'd be more than happy to show it off. All of this would of course have to be outside of where the show is taking place. I know that I'm ecstatic about this instrument, as I'm absolutely head over heals for it. It really is a hoot to play.

Thank you for your consideration,

Dan

Wow Dan, I hope recovery goes well and all sensation returns. Joel built you a looker for sure, and I would love to hear it. Hope you have a great time in Santa Barbara. Take some pics for us too.

Dan... I am so incredibly sorry to hear about your accident. A similar thing on a much less serious scale happened to me just last month and I was already panicking about the possible repercussions. I cannot even begin to imagine how you feel.

I wish you the speediest of recoveries! That is a beautiful guitar and so is your dog. Hopefully we will get to hear your guitar in action have a great time at the festival!

Thanks Ryan. The finger is healing and its crossed for full recovery. If not, at least we tried. I feel fortunate that I can still play, numb or not!

I appreciate your empathy. You are worthy of using that word. I thought about mentioning you on my earlier post, but I was already getting too wordy.. I know too well some of the thoughts that ran through your head. Especially right after picking up your guitar from the man himself! Makes one question if owning a guitar is justified. As guitar lovers, horrible thoughts indeed. I'm excited for you to get heeled up so we can hear you wail on your most recent Michaud!

As for the dog, he and I have a mutual understanding. For the record, he didn't necessarily bite at me. I actually went at him and my fret fingertip caught his very sharp canine. He took off, and I bled all the way to the sink!

By the way, if more than one person wants to take a crack at it, I'm still open to the offer.

Such a minor injury to myself already had me worrying non-stop. You are a brave man. Keep up the positive attitude and get well soon!! we are all rooting for you.

Fortunately, guitar playing isn't that taxing on the fingers and I should be able to play in my full capacity soon enough. It is in other activities though, especially sports, where I'm noticing it to a greater extent.

Smile Get better FAST

Injuries! Man they are scary... I often reflect that I was lucky to survive my childhood and younger days!

May I suggest investigating nutrition and therapy for this...

Get back to playing as soon as possible! Maybe sooner!

Have fun in SB. Wish I could have come.

Cheeers

I met up with Nootis after a guitar workshop at SBAIC where he had this Stehr Baritone. It looks even better in person than the pictures and the deep rich sound is haunting. Best on healing from your injuries and great to see you again!
