Default BEHRINGER U-PHORIA UMC404HD

I just ordered a BEHRINGER U-PHORIA UMC404HD which I'm going to use to record three tracks simultaneously on my 2015 Macbook Pro. How do I do this? What software will I need?

I had not seen that model before, amazoing that they can offer an AI with 4 mic preamps under $100.

You need a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) - recording software. Audacity and Garageband ar ethe 2 (free/included) DAWs many people start out with. Audacity is fairly limited, and obviously GB is only for Macs.

You can download free trial versions (usually limited versions) of most DAWs - Cubase, Reason, Mixcraft, Ableton ...
I recommend Reaper, as you can download the full version free and only pay for it once you decide you are going to keep it and use it (and at $60, its a bargain). However, there is a pretty steep learning curve with it - but there is a free e-manual, they have an extensive help forum and you'll find tons of youtube videos, too.

Since you have an Apple computer I would suggest Garageband. I have a UMC202HD and it works very well with my Apple computer but I use Logic Pro X. Doesn't need any drivers with OS-X.

I also have a more expensive RME Babyface on another machine. That is a better sounding interface but the Behringer is more than enough to get started.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried Reaper but I'll have to find something else to use. I was able to record a track about 30 seconds after opening it, but then I spent an hour trying to figure out why I couldn't hear the playback. **** that. I'll use anything else before I even touch that program again.

If the drivers are stable for this hardware, this would be a bargain! 4 Midas pres with inserts, that's pretty cool. For the price I would like to try one of these just to see how good it is. Behringer is famous for ripping off other successful designs I wonder what this is based on I also like the metal case.

Oh, you're on homerecording.com, too. Chances are you did not have the Behr selected as your audio output device in the Reaper options. Or you didn't have headphones/monitors plugged into it, but your computer jacks instead.

Behringer purchased Midas a while back - so they likely just used the pre-amp design. The big fear when that first happened was that Midas was going to suffer. So far they Midas line has kept its integrity.

The jury is still out whether Midas is suffering reliability and sound-wise, and this is an interface not just a preamp so that's more what I'm wondering about. For the money it's worth a try!
