Very cool. Thanks for the pic showing the bridge position.

So this is something of a non-advanced quadruple X with integrated finger braces (the upper ends of the secondary X-braces). The "Quad X". I'll sell you that.

Default Major change...

So the client... my sister... decided that she liked the rosette but that the top was "too yellow". Anyway, I showed her a set of red spruce, and apparently she likes that better?!?! Now I have to start over with the top so hope to get some pictures of the new top up soon, going with the same basic rosette design, same bracing, as the tap tones are magnificent!!! But changing the species.

Oh well, I aim to please!

So its been awhile, I've been working on another project which I'll get some pic of up later today (all mahogany om)
Anyway, I thought I'd update with what I could, so here's some pictures of the fret board with the paua dots installed, the paua will match the purfling on the top and the rosette as well as an interesting head stock design!

As you can see, I also got it slotted.

Default Here's the holdup

Here's the reason that the Maple guitar has been on the back burner.

As you can see I decided to stain the back and sides a darker brown to contrast from the top and the cream bindings!

Hope you guys like!!!

Thanks Matthew! I'm very anxious to hear what it will sound like coupled with the maple back and sides when the guitar is complete!!!

I got the back glued to the rim a little while ago and have since trimmed it flush with the sides.

I then decided to see what it looked like with some spirits, so here that is!!!

I could not be more happy with the beauty of this wood! I hope that the rosewood bindings don't take away but simply frame the art that is this wood.

In other news I have started the finishing of the mahogany OM with the first coat applied today!

Stay tuned for more updates and feel to ask any questions, or post any comments.

I plan on starting on a few more guitars in the recent future!

They first one with a B...E...A...UTIFUL set of Gabon Ebony back and sides

and the Second will be a highly figured red gum set...

And the third on the docket will be a Figured maple OM cutaway

As for other particulars for these guitars, I have none in stone, though some in mind! Suggestions are welcome, or if you're interested in any of the above woods, you can PM me

Thanks for following along an the support!

Evan

Default Interesting wood

If you haven't built with the Red Gum, I think you'll be surprised. It is one of my favorite woods, it bends beautifully, finishes like a dream, it's light and it sounds great. The four guitars that I've built with it have great projection and sustain not to mention the look. I can't wait to see your Gum build and your response.

I have not and now am a lot more confident in it! I was afraid that they would be overly tricky to bend, what with the figure of the sides. I was also afraid that since there isn't too much available on red gum's tonality, or in general, that it may not sounds as good as it looks!

Thanks for sharing!

I got a few more coats of finish on the All Mahogany!

Look at her shine

I also got the sides for the curly maple OMC bent but haven't cleaned them up from bending yet, little more water staining on this set then the previous maple. I attribute that to the use of more water as I was afraid of cracking by the cut-away...

The curl is A LOT more noticeable in person, but I tried to show it in this pic.

Default Quick Update

So I finally got around to actually bracing the top...

I pre-carve my braces and then will go back and voice before attaching the top and rim.

The pencil mark in the middle is where the top of the bridge will be, to give you an idea.

Here's a nice view of the scalloped braces before voicing, as you can see, they're still fairly thick in comparison to final size.

In other news...

I have started to finalize some details on the Cutaway OM.

Decided to go with:
a blood wood accents to an ebony back-strip
Blood wood bindings
BWB Purfling
Red Spruce top (to keep with the red theme!!! )

Here's some pictures of the unjoined back:

I don't know how well the red came out on camera but it is stunning!!!

Thanks!!!

Here's the body before recieving the top:

The N Stands for Nutmeg Acoustics (In the Nutmeg State of CT) which is what I've decided to officially name the brand, as I thought Fahr Out Ukes was a little out of place for a guitar company, and My last name isn't catchy like some other luthiers!!!
