Work on the rosette has started as well. Tom has a very creative way of making the ebony binding for the sound hole which will be beveled in the end. The ebony circle is first inlaid into the top, together with the cross grain brazillian ring that would actually be the rosette:

Mother of pearl purfling lines are inlaid to provide a good contract between the two wood species:

Tom also started on construction of the top braces which will go in over the weekend. Here's a shot of the X-brace:



The box should be ready to be closed once the top is voiced

Excellent choices all the way around. I have a Trinity that is the same wood combination. Your guitar will look like mine's big brother. My Doerr is one of my favorites for sure.

Thanks Rob, Fred and Nash for the kinds words regarding the guitar. I was initially thinking hard about wether to do an abalone trim or wood trim. I have seen quite a few all-wood appointed guitars that didn't do it for me personally from an aesthetics perspective but Tom just seems to know how to bring out the best in wood. I am happy with how the rosette is turning out!

I am very pleased with how the box has turned out so far. Next up would be work on the beveled binding and armrest.

I am sure Tom will build you a phenomenal Trinity. The whole process of going thru the build with Tom thus far has been very educational for me, and Tom has been kind and patient enough to explain his build philosophy and why he chooses to do certain things uniquely as we journeyed on this one.

Nice progress....an important moment when she's boxed up! Yes, Tom is super when talking through things. Very patient and honest in all dealings. He knows what he can deliver!There's an integrity that is rare in today's world. I get that same sense from a lot of what other luthiers offer here on the forum. From my personal experience, Tom embodies these qualities in every way.

Thank you Fred, my experience with Tom definitely mirrors yours one thing that makes working with Tom fun is that he is always thinking on his feet and striving to come up with a better design even in the most minute of details. This man eats, sleeps and dreams guitars

While the box is almost closed Tom sent over a couple of options for the front and back plates that would go on the headstock. We have picked out the front plate together, and it is pictured here to the right of the fingerboard. We both felt this piece matches best in grain and color of the fretboard:



The end result will see the fingerboard and headplate outlined In micro pearl purfling and bound in ebony. That ties in the theme with the rosette. I can't yet imagine the overall look but I am excited to see it.

That Braz headplate looks a bit like my Coco headplate which Tom selected. It should be wonderful.
tom's ebony binding was an upcharge for mine ( his Standard build with several upgrades) and I love the way it turned out. Tom's new truss rod cover was also added.

Fred, that is gorgeous. I hope mine can turn out looking like yours and I especially love the teardrop truss rod cover though I still have no idea how it is being held in place on the headstock without a screw, looks pretty ingenious.

we haven't yet decided on the backplates, the neck build should be fun to watch.

At this point I am excited to see how the final box will look with the bevel, bevelled binding and top trim installed. I also like how Tom sands his guitars shiny-smooth even prior to finishing.

So Tom has been working on the top trim, getting the binding installed as well as the Ryan Bevel. After those were in it was time to bevel the bindings around the sound hole and body perimeter. Here are some in progress pics:







It all looks a little messy at present but I am amazed at how much handiwork goes into creating these details, sure can't do that on a machine.
