Would you pay a premium for a signed guitar?
Now I understand if I had Willie Nelson's "Trigger" it would be worth big bucks, but I'm talking about the average acoustic that somebody's taken to a concert and had their favorite artist sign.
To me that almost always detracts from the value. How about for you?

Only signature I want to see is the builder's. My old Mossman had the initials of everyone who worked on it on the label, I sorta liked that.

I guess that would all depend on how much you like the person(s) that signed it.

I'd not mind a DY62c with the label signed by Monty Montgomery.
But I don't want a signature on the body of the guitar. I have seen some Yairi's that have been "signed" by K. Yairi. Looked more like a branding iron was used.

I always amazes me when you see a pretty nice guitar on CL where the owner has had some relatively unknown artist like Johnny Mac Bighat or somebody use a sharpie to scrawl an autograph across the sitka top and then the owner wants to say that this increases the value.
Absolutely the opposite is true IMHO.

Nope, they usually sign them outa obligation. Now if I was at a Bruce Cockburn or Gary Louris concert and handed him my guitar, well that's a different story, mark that sucker up and shake my hand with a few words, obligated or not.

No, I wouldn't pay a premium. I would pay fair market for one that had a signature if I liked the guitar though.
Actually, let me reconsider. If there was a Seagull (or something in an equivalent price range) with Jimmy Page's signature (with COA) and it was going for just $100 over fair market, I probably would buy it. Although I suspect such a signature is worth more than $100. |

I would consider a signed guitar to be worth less than an unsigned one.
