Pro-level live recording (with video)
I'm not sure how many might be interested in this, but there seems to be an ever-increasing interest in live performance recording, particularly when it's done in a pro-level studio environment. Great recordings, done in any manner, are certainly still desirable, but I see more and more reference to polished audio recording combined with video of live bands. Perhaps it's the same thing that made MTV so initially successful.
Whatever the reason, there's a lot of really great stuff out there like the "Live at Electric Lady Studios" sessions. Here's a very nice behind-the-scenes overview of the process as done by Minnesota Public Radio Station 89.3 FM, The Current. Lots of stuff relating to the room, set-up regimen, live takes, etc. http://www.thecurrent.org/feature/20...urrent-studios I'll close with a nice example from Drive By Truckers for their in-studio at MPR 89.3. https://youtu.be/aQQB7rkZZmk Last edited by Rudy4; 01-19-2017 at 09:20 PM. |

Two excellent sources for great pro music videos are "The Transatlantic Sessions" by Pelicula Films Ltd, funded by BBC Scotland and RTE of Ireland
And another company that makes great videos is Music Fog Here is a Music Fog production of one of my favorite bands Elephant Revival "Remembering a Beginning" Darrel Scott, Transatlantic Sessions "The Open Door"

TransAtlantic Sessions I've been deeply in love with for a long time!
Another favorite which I'm spacing on is one I saw on PBS with Alison Krause & band, Jerry Douglas, Robert Plant, Buddy Miller, T-Bone Burnett doing a live video in a really nice room with lots of wood and Persian rugs. I'm always looking at the mics and placement... |
