I owned one of these (and hope to again in the future) and they are a good value. Awesome guitar! Best value IMHO in the Lesp Paul Custom Shop Historic series.

Excellent (and swift!) responses all - thanks! Armed with such advice, I hit the streets (and later, the keyboard) and did what I enjoy most (well, almost most): shopping for a guitar!
I love the tone from the Burstbucker Pro-Alnico's in the Standards. And I absolutely concur on the consensus love of the 50's neck ...it just feels right. (and Jamison, I agree that that Heritage H150 of yours is gorgeous ...but I've got the urge for a Gibby...) The Heritage Cherry Sunburst is one beautiful guitar: and I also dug around online (thanks for the suggestions). This one looks interesting (from Buffalo Bros.). A used Custom Shop 1960 Les Paul Special SC Faded Cherry ...for $1900 in what looks to be great condition. That seems like quite the deal. What you don't get is one of those wonderful flamed maple tops. Anybody know anything about this model? And to Deadduck's point on the value of the 'Faded' Standard, http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...eck?sku=517523 ...why would it be selling for $700 less than the Standard above??? .

This guitar is the piece of **** to which I referred to earlier:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...tar?sku=517536 For playability and quality, you're better off with an Epiphone, honestly.

I'd go for one of those but the headstock can be a bit yucky to me. It isn't a huge difference from Gibson's HS but there's something about it that I don't like. The body looks great...the top is wow. Reminds me of the 'rootbeer' ones that were out.

I have seen that guitar for a different, much lower, price elsewhere. I could be mistaken but a few years back this model along with a SG and a V were put out as the "faded" budget models of the time. Your pic looks like the Les Paul model with a pick guard thrown on. A good comparison would be the current budget Melody Maker line. Keep the faith!

This is pretty different from what I think you want. Doesn't have the beautiful maple cap of a Standard, and it's flat instead of carved top. It also has P90 pickups, which are VERY different from the Standard's Burstbuckers. And, if it truly is a Custom Shop '60s model, it will probably have the '60s neck instead of the '50s neck. I would guess this cherry guitar sounds more like a Melody Maker or LP Jr. than a LP Standard.

I have a 1997 Les Paul Classic, cherry sunburst, i'd let go if you change your mind about a standard or custom.

I have a been up '71 LP Custom... a thoroughly beat up, abused black beat that I through a bigsby on about 10 years ago... love it! My 1st "real" electric guitar that I bought used in the early '80s while in high school. Crazy that it was so cheap before Guns-N-Roses and a few other bands made them popular again.
That stated, I love a cool vintage sunburst look... and this cool LP I just saw on ebay earlier today. It's not mine, but how cool would I be thrashing out some alternative music with this beast (I'd love to have it )

if you need an LP...
Sorry to butt in folks but I've just recently seen a new Epiphone LP Ultr II which has a built-in acoustic pickup for hybrid sounds and I know the shadow nanotech PU to be outstanding on the few acoustic guitars I've seen it on. The reviews have been pretty amazing too!

Wow, that is one gorgeous guitar!! Is that your actual guitar in the photos? (They are very well done, by the way). What are you hoping to get for it? .

I second the suggestion for a Heritage 150CM. You can get a used one with the right hardware (Duncan 59s, Gibson bridge and tailpiece) for $1200. This has got to be the best bargain on the planet. Here's one I picked up recently with Lollar p90s:
