Default First Recording - How Does It Sound?

Hi Guys

I picked up a used Apogee Jam today and it's my first foray into recording myself.

I'd appreciate some feedback on how the recording sounds to your trained ears...I know absolutely nothing about recording/mixing etc and all I did was add a bit of reverb in Garageband because it was easy!

Ignore the horrible playing, but I'd appreciate some feedback on how this sounds to you in terms of the recording quality. It was played on a pretty cheap guitar so presume the pickup in it isn't cutting edge by any stretch!

But it's nice to be able to record myself with a bit of clarity for practice purposes.

As an aside, if anyone has any tips for a recording newbie in terms of must-do's (or must-not-do's, come to that!) then I'd be keen to hear it! Any tips you've learned through trial and error that would be helpful to a recording newbie would be much appreciated!

Cheers!

Edited to add another, played around with the effects a bit more in GB this time

It sounded good to me, clear and not distorted.

I agree with Rick that it sounds a little quacky, but its clean and without background noise that you would pick up with a mic. Its pleasant to listen to though and your playing wasn't terrible at all.

Thanks guys

Yeah I guess it's never going to be the same as having a microphone and a 'true' acoustic recording, but it seems to fit the bill for what will primarily be a practice tool. Hopefully as I learn more about GarageBand etc I can make them sound a little more natural.
