Neil Young or Bob Dylan
Who do you prefer and why? I like Neils unplugged stuff a lot...
Pocahontas Thrasher Heart Of Gold My My, Hey Hey Powderfinger Some of the best acoustic songs ever in my opinion. They are simple, yet so complex. I think he's the best ever at taking a three chord song and turning it into a masterpiece that sounds better than a song with that many chords should. Then we have Bob Dylan. Do I even need to say anything really? Knocking on Heavens Door If You See Her, Say Hello Idiot Wind Blowin' In The Wind Don't Think Twice It's Alright Hurricane A Hard Rains Gonna Fall So many more. You get the point...he was a genius. LONG LIVE THE HARMONICA! |

I thought you were going to ask who has the most annoying singing voice! For song writing, Dylan is the genius. I actually prefer many of his "non-standard" tunes to his better known ones. Incredible poet. As an aside, I heard an interview some time back on NPR. Didn't know who was being interviewed. Some musician talking about performing at the Grand ol Opry. Wonderful voice. At the end of the interview, the interviewer says "thank you to Neil Young for this interview"!!! Could have knocked me over with a feather. DOn't know why his singing voice goes up 3 octaves and gets out of tune when he sings....but guess it hasn't hurt his career.

I had the same thoughts. I have to say I prefer Dylan both as a song writer and even as a singer. Neither sing that well but the high pitched Young's voice can get on my tattered nerves.

I really like Bob's early guitar strumming as well - I guess his accompaniment is what I'm trying to say. His words are obviously genius.
Saw him for first tme ever - a few weeks ago at Red Rocks. It was awesome in the rain. Neil's lead guitar work is so unique and his acoustic prowess is not too shabby too. His songwriting is fantastic and his melodies emotional. So each is different and each is quite great and a genius to boot. Brilliant. |

I much prefer Dylan. While I like Young's songs, I can't stand his singing and, to me, he looks like a shaved monkey.

Both have written some fine tunes, and are both equally wretched to my ear.

Bob Dylan, hands down...has made more impact on our music than just about anyone else I can think of...and still going strong...one of the very finest musicians of our time...

Bob Dylan would be my choice between those two.

I love both, but Dylan hands down. Most people who hate Dylan cannot get past his voice. But that's usually where true genius and beauty lay -- behind the "obvious".

For me this is an impossible choice to make. I would see either live ant day of the week. I also own many albums from both artists. Sometimes I am in the mood for Harvest or After the Gold Rush or perhaps I'm more in the mood for Highway 61 or Blood on the Tracks...Both brilliant in their own way. Would you prefer Dark Side of the Moon or SGT Peppers? For me it's about what I am feeling or what I want to feel.

Bob Dylan!
Both are long-lived musicians, career-wise, but Dylan's poetry sets him apart from almost everyone else. Zimmerman Rules!

I'd say Neil.
I don't agree Dylan's music has had more impact then Young's. Young is definitely more prolific then Dylan. The sheer volume of Neil's catalog is unbelievable. Dylan popularized folk. Young took it and is still taking it somewhere. They are both talented poets who have unique perspectives on the human condition. Neither can sing. max |
