try some flat tops
Stick with it, you will get better. If you want to smooth things out a little, try the D'Addario flat tops. Great sounding stings that have had the top of the wire ground off. Very smooth for the slide without sacrifice of tonal characteristics.
BTW you don't want to be too smooth to get that bluesy southern style Ray http://store.daddario.com/category/1...7_Medium_13-56 |

Right. As one who primarily plays blues on the resonator, I like a bit of rasp...
In the amp as well; I always dial in a bit of dirt. Couple of things... Work on your damping. That's the source of most extraneous noise. You want to effectively damp behind the slide... Usually with the index finger. Not too hard, just enough to prevent extra vibrations. Your "attack" on the strings as well. Try to move the slide smoothly into contact with the strings, rather than slamming it down. (unless, of course, a little slammin' is called for . Finally, place the slide "on" the fret rather than behind it as you would if fretting normally. Have fun! It should be an expressive and enjoyable style. |
