resonator question ?
Hi Guys I am from the UK , I have a couple of electric guitars & a travel size Takamine acoustic. I have been given an Ozark 3515 (spider bridge etc) as I am not a slide player would it be worth the cost & trouble to take it to a guitar tech to have it set up & the action lowered etc....to play it as a "normal" acoustic , or should I try to sell or part-ex it do you think ?
thanks........ |

depends on the style of music you want to play. Resonators have a tone all of their own, for blues not much touches them imo. I'm not familiar with your model but it must be a round neck becuase you couldn't retrofit a square neck.
I'd strongly recommend buying yourself a slide and learning . It's a riotus way of playing and very addictive, also a fast learning curve, it's not hard to get results quickly. It's very addictive playing the vocal for a change and fun experimenting to find the tone or phrase you're looking for. Slide is the noodlers paradise. Good luck.

I am in a similair situation - got a resontaor (round neck spider bridge, mine is a fairly low-cost one) and do not play slide or have any inspiration to learn. I do like the sound for fingerpicking and would play it lots more if it were a little easier on the fingers.
I suppose for a guitar like this, the saddle needs lowered and the nut needs filed or replaced. I have not yet looked into the cost of this, but plan to one day - I wouldn't think it would be too expensive. I don't know - it wouldn't hurt to maybe ask around to see how much it would cost. I plan to have mine set-up eventually, I do love the sound for certain styles. |
