The worst part was not being able to afford replacement strings and having to re-use the b string I had just taken off and thrown away.

Recently re-discovered GHS strings. They still pack each individual string in a sealed plastic envelope. I avoid getting mixed up by laying out the unopened envelopes in the order I will change strings (E-e, A-b, D-G). Figure it gives me a couple of chances to catch an error before I put one on.

Re paper versus plastic. I will say that the GHS wound strings look much brighter coming out of the package than the two or three previous brands I used that had paper envelopes. May just be visual but its noticeable.

I should have heard that poor B string stretched all the way out to high E screaming for mercy. But then again, I don't hear that well these days either...

G-d, don't remind me what's coming with regards to adolescent driving when she turns 16 next year. Already too late about the wallet...

Did I mention that by this time in your sequence of senior moments that you've likely already forgotten that you had any children????

Maybe your new dog can hear the treble of a max tension B string? I know not funny and unhelpful.
Having just turned 62 I can relate, but even in my 20's I have done this act more times than I want to admit to publicly.

I've made the mistake of aiming the G string at the high E nut, and cutting it to fit, and then realizing I've just hosed the set!

Only needed to do it twice wrong, and since then have managed to stay on track!
