My vote would be for the Hamblin SJ on sale on AGF.
http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/f...d.php?t=453014
I believe the photos on this listing do not come close to doing this guitar justice.

My Hamblin is spectacular in terms of sound, woods, build quality and playability. I paid more for mine too!

I am not affiliated with the seller. Good luck.

Not sure if you've made a decision, but I've got a Chris Ensor Concert model I'm going to be listing. Here are the shots from Cris' site, I'm the original owner. I'm playing far more electric these days. Neck is a touch over 1 3/4, it no longer has the Lyric pickup. Otherwise, all the specs are as listed

http://www.ensorguitars.com/wenge_poc.html

$3200, shipped and PayPal included. Not looking for a trade, though that Thorn looks pretty awesome. Let me know if you want more info.

Thanks.

Ya....me too!! Agonizing with all of the fantastic guitars offered up, but very fun and exciting as well. Too many guitars, not enough $$ to buy several to make my decision easier.

Will keep the thread posted when the final decision is made.

Well, I've personally been jonesing for a Goodall for a while. Vaillant75 has a CJ for sale and you said 1 11/16 nut might be ok. I sold Tom my Froggy and he's a great guy.

Good luck whatever you decide.

Sorry you missed out on that Webber!!

Smile Another suggestion

This has been a fun thread!

May I suggest fitness1's McCollum with the back and sides from "The Tree"..

Seems like a real sweet axe at a stunning price. And it will need nothing, since Fitness has done all the setup!

Whatever you get, play it in good health, and HAVE FUN

cheers

Paul

Thanks for the feedback Paul! It has been alot of fun, if not exhausting and mind-numbing to say the least. I counted this morning....I had 37 forum brethren offer their guitars up for purchase, and there wasn't a bad one in the bunch. Of course, in my mind I had some ideas as to what I was looking for, but without a definitive idea...each one caught my interest in a different way.

I had my search narrowed down to three guitars, but one sold today...so it's out of the picture. I am now going back through some of the offers just to re-visit a few and see if there is anything I may have missed in the flurry. I'll be sure to look at Todd's guitar again for sure.

The search is still on and continues...but I truly do think I am very close to choosing one. Just trying to clear the funk from the last few days and look at each with a clear and open mind...and open ears.

Have a great week all and will update again as I get to the finish line.

This has been enjoyable to read. It'll be nice to see which you select. As you said, there are a lot of great guitars being offered, so I don't envy your decision!

I have a Goodall and it would be my recommendation for your price point. You can't go wrong and all the Goodall's I have heard have a consistent sound.

Before deciding on the Goodall, I watched tons of videos and thought that the video below captured the Goodall's sound perfectly.

Also, SuperB23, forum member here has made some nice videos of Goodalls which has captured their sound very well also.

Good luck on your search :-)

THE SEARCH HAS ENDED! As they say, it's not the destination, but the journey that matters. And what a journey its been over the past several days looking for my "keeper" guitar. I had well over 50 members propose guitars for purchase...some offered multiple guitars. I've read up on more guitars, studied more reviews, listened and watched more videos over the past four days than I have in the past year. I spoke to a number of fellow AGF members whose knowledge of guitars I trust (shout out to Todd (Fitness1), Rye (Chedeng88), and Corey (Rikdogski) for their feedback and input).

SO.....what did I decide on? For years I have wanted a Goodall, but have shied away because I do quite a bit of strumming and have read/heard that due to the lushness of the overtones Goodall guitars are known for, notes can get lost and there is just "too much going on". HOWEVER, I came across a Goodall over the weekend that was custom built and spec'd for an AGF forum member - a Goodall Custom CJ Cedar and Tropical Mahogany - that just blew me away. Fortunately, the original owner is a peforming musician, so there were numerous videos available for my viewing that showcased the Goodall in about every style of playing imaginable. Whether fingerstyle, flatpicked, or strummed, the guitar was just brilliant to my ears. Not to mention the owner's playing style was also phenomenal and was an inspiration to watch and hear.

I passed on some exceptional guitars...Doerr, Charis, Kinnaird, Martins, Taylors, Collings, and just about every other make you can imagine, and this is the one that I just kept going back to as I wanted to hear more.

Thanks to Vaillant75 (Tom) for working with me on the purchase...much appreciated and I cannot wait to receive the Goodall in a few days. Thanks to Tom Doerr for his generous offer on one of his guitars. I told Tom there is definitely a Doerr in my very near future for sure. His guitars are simply exceptional instruments that are definitely at the top of the food chain.

And a special shout out to forum member Noledog (Eric), the original owner of the Goodall. Your playing and passion is inspirational...I listened to "Back When" and several of your other songs many, many times over the past couple of days and was inspired by your style, ability, and of course...the Goodall.

So my friends...it's been real fun! Thanks to everyone for staying in touch, thanks to all those who offered their guitars throughout this process, and thanks to all for making this a heck of a journey since last week. IT'S BEEN A BLAST!

BTW....IF YOU OFFERED A GUITAR AND I DID NOT RESPOND, MY SINCERE APOLOGIES. THE RESPONSE WAS OVERWHELMING AND I HAVE SENT EMAIL AFTER EMAIL UNTIL MY HANDS ARE SORE FROM TYPING.
