Depth for the saddle slot?
Depth for the saddle slot? or maybe this is not correct question.
Regaedles that my bridge will be from Carbon Fibre my question is related to wooden bridges. I believe that deeper slot will provide more stability and "better sound". But too deep slot will weaken the bridge and saddle will be less stable and with time the bridge could crack or break. Comming back to my question what is most optimum depth of saddle slot for a wooden bridge or what is best distance between end of saddle and guitar top. Also I know that "standard" thickness of slot is 1/8" but im thinking to make saddle thicker about 0.2" does anyone tried thicker saddle I may be wrong but it should be easer to work on intonation. |

There are thicker saddles available. Don't think you should have that much to worry about splitting a CF bridge.

Routed saddle slots are usually about 0.220" deep. If the bridge is 0.340" thick, that means that there is about 0.120" of wood between the bottom of the saddle and the top.
I don't like the sound of saddles that are thicker than 1/8", but I admit that I am biased toward Martins, which are generally about 0.100" thick. IMHO, a 0.100" thick compensated saddle can have very good intonation....provided the saddle is placed properly. |

In what way does the sound change with the extra thickness John?

The slot should be about 1/2 the height of the saddle, don't make it too deep.

I typically go just under 1/2in the thickness of the bridge. Given that my bridges are typically 3/8th in thick I like to have at least 1/8th inch wood under the saddle. That way if someone wants to install a piezo USP in the future they have plenty of room.
