Well, I'm also in CT, and my experience is different. Our regular USPS carrier always rings the bell and waits to hand over the package. UPS and FedEx sometimes yes, sometimes no, although I think the regular UPS guy on this route usually does.

Brings to mind what a friend of mine did many years ago. He had a bird hunting dog that he didn't want his elderly mother to call or give orders to so he named him Prick.

USPS is terrific and do what you say. They actually risk their lives by doing that. I live on a street with a 25 mph speed limit but the traffic normally goes 40-50 mph and I live on a curve.

I can live without them ringing the doorbell if they'd just leave the package at the back door, instead of on the front porch where every passerby can see it. Some of them do that, but more often than not I'll come home and there's my expensive purchase, sitting right there in plain sight.

I generally don't order too much stuff. I try to avoid it if I can. Our GC is pretty good. If I order any musical stuff, I get it sent to their store and pick it up. The drivers we have on my route are horrible. Most of the time they just toss stuff out in our yard. Several packages have almost been run over. Some have been ruined by laying out in the yard all day during bad weather.

From the context it looks as if you were talking about USPS?

My wife works for the federal government. She spent two years working as a rural carrier for the USPS and I got to see the ins-and-outs of that job.
I won't speak for her coworkers but she worked her butt off. They are saddled with incredibly crummy equipment: antiquated phones, no GPS systems, the worst vehicles on the road (seriously you would think they are ultra reliable but they are the cheapest worst built thing but they can be serviced easily. ) Try driving a RWD truck with teeny tiny tires on the wrong side of a country road in a blizzard and no A/C in the summer, anemic heat in winter, no power windows but you can slide the window up and down every stop.. . Anyway, I can't tell you how many times she was confronted by viscious dogs, idiot owners or even the time she called me to bring a second first aid kit because she wiped out on someones icy steps. She was a bloody mess and, no, she didn't sue or even take disability. I patched her up helped her back in her truck and she got back to delivering. Some folks there work hard and are totally committed to the slogan. They contract and deliver for Amazon on Sundays for Prime delivery. Very rough and tumble job.

No shipper moves a package, let alone millions, directly non-stop from seller to buyer. They have fancy computer algorithms that coordinate millions of packages for the overall best efficiency for all packages. That's why it's not reasonable to criticize any one package's meandering route or number of stops. That said, that 5 day delay does seem unacceptable barring bad weather, strikes or other circumstances. Last edited by Tico; 12-09-2017 at 12:56 AM. |

I had this happen this morning with my Boss RV500 pedal... it’s 24 degrees outside and they left my $350 pedal in the cold. I wasn’t happy to say the least..

USPS delivered my watch, (To Citizen repair center) from CT to California, 2 day priority mail with $200.00 worth of insurance for $8.95. I'm not sure if they rang their doorbell but I was satisfied with the service. ......... Beats driving.

Some people simply should not buy things online. They think their order is a much bigger deal than it really is. They will never be satisfied. The same individuals whine about paying sales tax or a few bucks for shipping.
