Default Humphrey Amp

Hello! I met Gerry at the 2013 Healdsburg Guitar Festival. I had heard a number of guitars through his amps at the 2011 HGF, and decided I needed to meet him at the 2013 HGF. We started chatting and, well, you know the rest! Gerry shipped my new amp today, so I am eagerly waiting to get it and play a few of my guitars through it!

This is gonna be fun!

Very nice amp right there! I, too, first saw these amplifiers in person at the 2011 Healdsburg show (where I met you!)... heard Laurance Juber playing his set through one of them, as well as another demo or two...

I am betting that you will love this little jewel! Enjoy!!!

Eagerly awaiting a "playing review"...

Oops, got drool on my computer screen. Thanks a lot! Before I go off to get a towel you're gonna give us a FULL review, right?

I'll do the best I can for a review for you. But, Doug Young and Al Petteway have done much better reviews of these amps than I could ever do. It really was in listening to wonderful players play through these amps, meeting Gerry and his wife in person, and looking at how gorgeous these are (so many woods from which to select), that drove me to having to make the purchase. Really looking forward to spending some time with the amp in my living room.

Really looking forward to a hands on review of your new Humphrey. These things are so few and far between that it's almost impossible to hear about one out there in the real world. I've long been a fan of warm old tube amps and these beautiful little works of art fascinate me, but at close to $3K, it hard to pull the trigger on a piece of equipment that I've never even seen in person before.

A few things I'd sure be interested in hearing about are:

What's your favorite pickup to use with the Humphrey?

Can a passive pickup be run straight into the amp with good results?

The Humphrey website says that jazz guys really like these amps for their clean, chimey sound, so how does a good magnetic soundhole pickup sound?

Realizing that the incredible cabinetry adds significantly to price, how does the sound of the Humphrey compare to other small, less expensive boutique amps like AERs and Schertlers?

Are there any feedback controls on the amp?

Lastly, how difficult was it deciding what wood you wanted it made out of? They all look good!

Whew! That's a lot of questions for something you haven't even got your hands on yet. I just hope it's everything you hope its going to be.
